Eito listens for a moment and sighs. "This is why I hate political marriages. I may need to do one for the Spider but I still hate it. I have private business reasons to marry her despite my dislike of marrying for such reasons. If I end up needing to marry her, but her heart is for you. I would not stand in your way. Alternatively, I would be more then happy to just see the both of you but, not everyone agrees with that one."
Eito sighs. "It's a complicated matter. And I confess I have a date with her later, but I want to do right by you both."

Genji chuckles just a little, glad the server hasn't arrived yet with their food. "No offense, Eito-san.... may I call you Eito-san?... but I don't swing that way." He smiles, no offense taken and hoping his own response didn't give any. "As for an arranged marriage, or a political marriage, isn't that a little difficult when she's a ronin?" Clearly he was confused at this point, but then politics was never the Unicorn bushi's strong point.

Eito shrugs. "No offense taken at all. The heart goes as the heart goes. And Eito-san is more then fine." he says cheerfully. "There, are advantages which would benefit my clan in our current state. It's complicated and involves matters I would not discuss for her sake. We haven't finalized anything or even really begun to discuss it. But again, I am poly-amorous as well. I see love as something that can be enjoyed between many rather then just two. Scandalous i'm sure but I AM a Spider. Some scandal is to be expected. I don't mind her seeing us both but I understand if you or her are bothered by it."

And I'd be playing second fiddle. But at least now I know for sure you know.
"Eito-san, Honor and Duty alone would prohibit me from entering into that type of agreement." Thankfully the servant, who arrives with their meals and drinks, hasn't heard any of what they're discussing so as far as they know this is a business arrangement of some type. The servant leaves once they make certain everything is in order, giving Genji the freedom to speak again.
"I'm not saying no, but I still have to think about what's proper and the last thing I'd want is to bring shame or scandal to Umeko-chan."

Eito wrinkles his nose. "Duty and honor tend to do that yes. If I did, I would shield you both from dishonor. It would not be difficult to hire you as a bodyguard or some nonsense post that allows the two of you to be happy together. If the two of you do not wish such an arrangement, I am also happy to hire her for my company so that the matter of a living is solved. I mean, I still want her. But if you are better for her, Insight says that the kind thing to do would be to see to her happiness."

Genji grimaced visibly. It was clear he wanted to say no, that he wanted nothing to do with this deal and that everything about it screamed to stay the ever loving Jigoku away from it...
...but there was still another party to consider. What would be best for Umeko and her plans? Living as an Utaku with a husband who had no connections and could only stifle her plans she'd been desiring for so long? Or living an equally luxurious (hey, the Unicorn aren't totes poor!) but less nomadic life with a man whom she may not love and may not love her, but could give her the resources she needed.
He took a bite of his vegetables as he considered all of this, then swallowed them after chewing for a bit.
"I'd... have to talk to her, Eito-san. But my every instinct is telling me this is a bad idea."

Eito raises his brow. "I wish to talk to her as well. After all it would hardly do to have a wife who despises me. Your insight into the matter may be right, we will see. But if she loves you back I want to take you into consideration. It's a weird situation and I have nothing against you. And I may grow to love her in time, she is the sort of woman who could very easily inspire that feeling. Does she know you love her?"

"She does, and the situation is... complicated."
Genji sighs. "There's a very selfish part of me that wishes she'd just accept my feelings, because I'd spend the rest of my life with her regardless of our stations or clan. And she did tell me she'd accept my feelings if it weren't for the other matter you and I both seem to be aware of. But."
He pauses to rub the bridge of his nose, eyes closing while he probably volunteers a bit too much information to the Spider. But if it earns him an ally in all of this? It could be worth it. "If it's her destiny to accomplish her goal, who am I to deny her of it? I want her to be happy, to be loved and love in return.. and I don't know that her path will afford her that. But I also wouldn't forgive myself if she never achieved her goal because of me."

Eito taps his fingers on his lips a moment, thinking. "So, I need a to find a way for her to get her goal, but if she cares for you, both of you ending up together. A challenge. A real challenge. Don't suppose you want to be adopted by the Spider? That would solve some issues. Well not really. I would be the one paying for you because the rest of the clan lacks resources." he says thinking softly to himself. "Shame about your Honor and Duty, easiest answer would just be I marry her, you act as her bodyguard and actual partner while I just act as the husband and enjoy whoever I enjoy."

"Even then, it isn't that simple, Shibatsu-san."
He sat his fork and knife down, by now having eaten about half his meal. Genji wipes down his mouth with his napkin then shakes his head. "There's a goal of my own I wish to accomplish, but it's something that I can't do as a member of another clan: it would simply be ignored and any price I would have paid for it would have been for naught. And I don't want her caught up in the backlash I could experience trying to complete it."
