"Being late to class, pressing questions when I've already provided an answer," the Military Science teacher replied to Kumataro. He nodded when the Ikoma arrived and gave the man a small nod. "Welcome. We haven't met - I'm Seppun Kojima, Military Science and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." "Nice to meet you, Seppun-sama," the Ikoma greets, looking around to the others. "That certainly sounds like an interestin' class, the one about the beasts... what's it about?" "Literature huh? I don't suppose that includes manga, hm?" Akane asked in a teasing voice. "It might be somethin' we cover for fun someday, Sensei. Not right now, though. Gotta start with the classics, or Nishikawa-sensei would have me outta here faster than a Kakita blade." |

Aiko takes a bite of her food, "I fail to see why. Manga started out as children's entertainment, sure, but modern manga-ka are writing stories with stories as gripping and as timeless as some of the classics."

Kumataro chuckled at Kojima's response.
"Yeah, students shouldn't show up late to class, but...eh, I remember doing it a few times."
He paused.
"Okay, more than a few times. I wasn't very smart back then."
He then bowed to Renmaru.
"Good to meetcha, Ikoma-san. I'm Hida Kumataro."

"Hey now, I'd be lyin' if I said I didn't think there was meaning to the stories. Convincin' me is easy enough, but the School Board? Thatsa whole 'nother can of worms."
Renmaru then turns to look to the imposing Crab, offering the Hida a respectful bow? "The former basketball player Kumataro, right? Wow, it's an honor! I've heard all kinda stories about ya. Maybe even told a few, too, if you'd believe. From what I hear, you had an incident with a monkey at some point in time here. Would make for some good rakugo, based on the events I read."

Akane nodded solemnly at the man's words; Yeah, darn school board! Saying eating wasn't a 'performance art'! Had they not seen the masterful way that scrawny Hiruma boy had downed fifty-three hot dogs in this year's contest?

Kumataro chuckled and scratched the back of his head.
"Well, Ikoma-san, I had a lot of incidents. A bit hard to remember a specific one. If you want though we can sit down and I can tell you some stories later."

"Yeah, sounds good. We'll have to go out for beers one night." Of course, a tale about the Hida running around the hotsprings as naked as the day he was born was probably a little to embarrassing to share in front of others.

The microwave beeped, and Kumataro turned around to take the ribs out.
"Beers, eh? I'll have to be sure I don't have too many, otherwise you might get more stories than you bargained for!"

"Mm. Sometimes, Seppun-sama, that questioning is because the answer does not reflect how they see the world or how things should be handled. Figuring out which it is can save you a lot of headaches in the future, because each clan handles things like warfare differently. Like, did you tell a Unicorn student they had no cavalry available?" I'm not quite sure what to do with myself in my off hours here. I was thinking about investigating the school grounds for my research - I've heard interesting stories about kodama spirits in the cherry blossom trees recently." |
