Koshiro shrugs and takes another mouthful of noodles. "Don't look at me, I don't think I'm that skilled. I'm just thankful to be able to go to classes here in RHS at all. Get to learn more things and such."

Hinata shrugged as well.
"I am sure there are plenty of non-scholarship students just as skilled. It does not have to mean you are the best."
She then looked at Koshiro.
"There is some level of higher than average skill implied, though. So I am sure there is something in you the school saw and liked."

Yoshi just looked at his tray and ate silently as the girls conversed with the newcomer. He was sure he didn't deserve to be at such a prestigious school. He'd barely passed the entrance exams, and his parents had scrimped and saved and poured all of his inheritance into the tuition. Because, if your son never amounted to anything, there was no reason for him to have any money after they were gone, and if he did, he could make his own.

"Sometimes, the opportunity is all you need. And sometimes, people waste it."
"Hey, you alright, Tamori-san?"

Nadeshiko nods along with Hinata before taking another bite of her Anmitsu while she mulls the answer.
"Oh I don't doubt that mostly everyone here is skilled in someway to deserve being here but you've already proven you're skilled. Anyone who meets you knows that simply by virtue of you being a scholarship student.
She glances over at Koshiro then.
"I'm certain the bar is even higher for someone like you... which means you definitely managed to impress them with your skills... otherwise they wouldn't have invited you here or offered to pay your tuition right? So buck up."

"I have my mother to thank for this opportunity, really. I know it wasn't easy for her to get me here, but here I am, and I intend to make the most out of this chance." Koshiro looks out the cafeteria window towards where the lake and his goal were. Wait. Is that... Is it not raining over there at the lake? Is it... shining over there? He blinks and squints his eyes, trying to discern if maybe he was just seeing things. "... Must be a break in the rain clouds over the lake," he mumbled as he returned to his meal.

"Or a weather witch," Kobushi adds. "Wouldn't exactly rule out that possibility."

"Hey, you alright, Tamori-san?" "Oh...?" Yoshi said with a start, looking up at Kobushi. He takes a deep breath and answers, "Yes, Daidoji-san... thank you. It's just... all the talk of scholarships and skill has me thinking about..." "I have my mother to thank for this opportunity... "...my parents," Yoshi finishes coincidentally. He bows in appreciation of Kobushi's concern, gives a brief smile of reassurance, then goes back to his meal.

At the mention of parents, Hinata looked down at her food for a moment.
"Yes...it is difficult being away from home for the first time. I can talk to my parents on the phone, but it does get a little bit overwhelming sometimes, you know?"

"My mother sent me 5 emails last night trying to make sure I was okay in my new room. Was my roommate nice, did I make any friends and all that."
She sighs wistfully for a moment before continuing
"Kuni-san is correct, being homesick is a truly unique feeling. I think the only way to really overcome it is to find things to plug the holes. Hobbies, friends, etc."
