"I don't think I've ever tried," she answers on the offer of smoking. "I suppose it couldn't hurt. The same for kava."
"Ah, but I did order us something to drink."
As if on cue, a waiter serves the süütei tsai. A plate of fried millet is next to it. Served in a large bowl, it is a milky-looking liquid, served hot. The waiter scoops up some of it and pours it from height repeatedly, stirring it. After a few moments of this, he pours each woman a cup.
Once he's gone, Hisui smiles. She watches for those little shifts in expression. It fascinates her, the interplay between stern Fuyuko and sweet Fuyuko. And then there was fretting Fuyuko. Layers upon layers, like a complex cake.
"Süütei tsai is a blend of tea," she explains. "It uses milk and some salt, mixed with a base of green tea, to create the flavor and appearance. You can have it on its own, but some dip the millet in it as appetizer."
She picks up her cup, blowing some steam away. At the same time, she looks at Fuyuko. No expectations or reason. It seems she simply wants to look, to find pleasure in the company.
"You know, I don't think I've ever had plum wine. What's it taste like?"

Fuyu looks at the odd drink, cocking her head a few times before she takes some of the millet, dipping it in before gasping. "Ah it's hotter then I expected. Alright what am I to expect when I drink this. Salty tea?" she sks preparing her palate for the taste...she tries a bit and nods. "It's not bad. Will take some getting used to but I like it."
Then the plum wine question comes. "Gentle, very gentle and sweat. It's not a good drink for intoxication but it is good with food. Light and sweet and brisk."

Hisui watches expectantly as Fuyuko tries. She isn't a chef, and barely even knows how to prepare that sort of tea. But she does like to see whether or not future deviations from Crane-approved cuisine are welcome.
"Nights out on the open plains can get cold," she notes before taking a sip of her own. "And it's easy to turn it into a soup by adding rice, if you're low on supplies."
She nods at the description of plum wine. "It sounds lovely. And reminds me a little of your softer side."
She smiles, but is silent as said plum wine is brought.

Fuyuko sips the tea and nods. "Its warm. It seems like good drink for a battle or a night on the plains. I don't know if I would drink it all the time but I enjoy it. You can try a sip if you like, a tiny drop of melancholy, from your tiny drop of melancholy." she says with a teasing smile.

"Well, as long as it's not a lot." She takes the offered sip. Not bad, and certainly more to her liking than kumis or sake. "Delightful, actually. Keep this up, and I may have to make an exception to the rule."
"And it's one more thing to share with you."
She grabs some fried millet, dips, and bites. There was still time before the other dishes arrived. Time to talk. Or just enjoy the company.

Fuyuko nods. "I find it's a poor drink for inebriation, a good drink for flavor with the alchohol only adding a slight kick. But we will share many things I hope.' she says sipping more of the tea. "I think this is my one glass of this though, it is a bit strange and I don't know how much I can drink before my stomach has questions for me."

"I did try to give you the option to back out. But hopefully, the rest of it will be more to your liking," she says, smiling before taking a few more bites. "Next time, you decide the food. Safer that way for both our stomachs."
She raises her glass of plum wine. "A toast. To us sharing many things."

Fuyu shakes her head. "I like it, just takes some getting used to. I will be fine." she says before lifting her glass. "To sharing as much as we can."

She sips the plum wine again. The flavor agrees with her, and it's almost a surprise. "Yes, I could definitely get used to this."
She thinks to lean in for a kiss. It wouldn't be too public, she muses. She also considers reaching out to hold a hand. Both were good ideas, ways to add a little intimacy to the moment.
And both were blocked by the timely arrival of two platters. Each one carried a number of small dumplings of a slightly larger size than normal, freshly steamed. The waiter points out that the left platter is mutton and the right is fish.
"Buuz," Hisui says once he's gone. "A little like the more common gyoza. The mutton is lightly spiced, with onion and garlic. The fish one will have seasonal spices."
"I ordered the fish one in case you dislike mutton. I mean, what Crane doesn't like fish?"
She grabs one of them with her chopsticks and offers it to the lady on the other side of the table. "Care to try?"

Fuyu chose both, her fan flips up with on hand, affording them the privacy. Were they whispering? Kissing? Only a dishonorable busybody would know. She takes the g irls hand and looks at the meal as they are brought out. "All crane like fish really, it's such a staple food. I must confess I did not like mutton when last I tried it but that was at a street stand. Lets see what it is like here." she says adventurously.
