Ryouko glanced toward the Dragon, pausing her stretches for a moment. She considered the offer quietly a few seconds before shrugging and making her way over. "Why not." The young woman said, resting her bokken on a nearby rack and trading it for a more appropriate training weapon. "I suppose it could have its uses."

Tarik followed her example. The piece of wood felt weird in his hands. He shrugged.
"I thought you would be more enthusiastic about it." He whispered to Ryouko as he stood next to her by the rack.

Noboru bowed to both students as Ryouko opted to join in at his invitation.
"Iaijutsu..." he sighed a little. Chances are the Dragon, who was already uncomfortable interacting with others, was in over his head with this but he'd given Tarik his word to tutor him so there was no backtracking. "For all the disagreements the clans have on the proper way to duel, the one thing nearly all of them can agree on is that dueling is not just an art. It is a sacred act."
His eyes flit to them both. "Through the art of the duel you can learn much, not only about others but about yourself and what kind of person you are."
The Mirumoto motions for them both to sit as he takes a seat opposite them.

Tarik assumed the the seat he was pointed at.
"I have heard about that, something about it being an expression of divine judgement." He commented.
"It's among the things I still don't get about your culture, but I guess eventually I will."

Ryouko wordlessly knelt down, sitting on her legs and placing the bokken on her left. Her face was stoic and she only nodded to the Dragon's words. It was hard to say what she herself thought of the dueling art, but there was no obvious excitement at the thought of training for it.

"It's... more than that."
He looked over to his right, eyes drifting off at a memory of events that happened a little over a day earlier. "Even a beginner can see it with the proper focus, but when you're facing off against your opponent your focus allows you a window into their soul. If you're truly fortunate, you can see what makes them tick. Who they are, what drives them, what flaws they have - both in their stance and even upon their soul."
Noboru turned back to the two of them, noting, "It was merely a spar to demonstrate our techniques to one who didn't understand why we duel, but yesterday, for the first time in a long time, I saw that window and saw my own soul looking back at me. I saw my equal and the thrill of facing them and how we could push each other to be better excited me."
As for Tarik's comment he bowed, "You are correct about it being an expression of divine judgment. That's why duels should never be entered into lightly. Rather, they should be for matters that cannot otherwise be reconciled or for a commander to show compassion to his troops and his opponent's on the battlefield, because ultimately the samurai under his command are his Lord's and as long as the terms are equitable and honored a duel between two commanders will ultimately spare many more lives than continuing on with a bloody engagement. Once as blade is drawn, it must taste blood and a duel is the Heavens decreeing who is in the right on a matter."

Hoshiko doesn't spar. Did he just tell me that his soulmate is someone else? Dafaq man, I didn't even try...
"Who were you sparring with, Mirumoto-san? Maybe in our next session I could convince him to join us. You make it sound as quite a spectacle."
He was unsure why he bowed, but in any case he returned the gesture. Being polite always helps.
"Any idea how that works with soulless people? Were there any duels fought during the Onyx War?"

"Her name was Kakita Uetani," he offered honestly. Given his rumored reputation and the obvious disdain he's shown for the Crane Clan in general, one might wonder what really happened in that spar and what led up to it.
"And if you mean soulless like the Nezumi or the Lost? I'm certain they can be taught to duel, but I doubt they can truly touch the Void like you and I can. If you mean the kharmic wheel, I'm certain you can be taught to call upon the Void if needed, Tarik-san, with proper training."
Then the topic of the Onyx War comes up and Noboru looks way, "I know of one that should have been fought and wasn't. Beyond that, I don't know but I doubt it because Jigoku only cares to subvert and corrupt everything it touches."

Ryouko had only been in school for a few days and had no idea of the Dragon's history with cranes so she took no notice of any potential oddities. She sat qith her back straight, waiting patiently. Most of what their tutor had said so far was things she already knew from her own classes. Her father had made sure she knew about iajutsu history even if his daughter couldn't care less for it.
At Tarik's mention of being soulless she rolled her eyes slightly. Having been raised mostly in gaijin lands all of her youth, she didN,t quite agree with most of Rokugan on that specific subject. Still, she didn't speak, letting Noboru do the talking since he was their sensei for the time being.

Kakita Uetani... The chick that has a date with Kogeki-san tonight, for horror flicks, yeah right...How can you be that easy to play man?
"I was merely being sarcastic about the local beliefs on the subject. Forgive me if I spoke out of hand." He apologised.
Ryouko's rolled eyes were not unnoticed. He avoided asking anything in order to not bore her.
