Noboru, on the other hand, wasn't the type to let something like that go. Especially being a Dragon. "Utaku-san, if you have something you wish to say, please don't hesitate."

Ryouko tilted her head slightly. "Nothing worth both of our times. Please, continue Mirumoto-san."

Samurai... so eager to pick a fight and ask the wrong questions... He waited patiently.

Noboru actually seemed disappointed that Ryouko wouldn't speak on the matter, almost as if he were genuinely interested in hearing what she had to say as opposed to picking a fight with her. That's when he turned to Tarik, bowing in acceptance of the gaijin's apology.
"I do not know what I do not know, Tarik-san, and it is better that way. Not knowing that I do not know is an illness."
He grinned a little at the koan but then took a few steps away from both of them as he offered, "Just remember that a duel should never be entered into lightly, and never if there are other alternatives. Once a blade is drawn, it must taste blood and at that point the avalanche has already started, it is too late for the pebbles to vote."
"Now then," his eyes studied both of them carefully, "take up your practice weapons and show me your stance."

Ryouko stood, easily slipping into her stance. She paused, frowning, before adjusting it toone more suited to the katana bokken she was currently using. As he wouldhave seen in the kenjutsu class, her usual fighting stance with the scimitar was different, the blade held more parralel to the ground.
It was obvious she wasn't as used to the katana, but it was also clear shehad practice with the more traditionnal weapon. It was, however, not a dueling stance.

Tarik being clueless just immitated Ryouko.
"I might meed some instructions with that. I mean I have seen some vids of Fuyu-sensei decapitating people, but understandably I hope, I wasn't paying attention to her stance."

Noboru began assessing each of their stances carefully, starting with Ryoko's since Tarik was attempting to imitate it. "Utaku-stan, show me the stance you used in Kenjutsu class. Tarik-san, don't try to imitate it but observe it. I have reasons for this, but I want to see Utaku-san's stance again first and then I'll explain."

She tilted herhead in acknowledgement, shifting slightly. The wooden blade shifted upward and her venter of gravity moved downward as she bent her knees and spread her feet appart. It wasn't a huge difference, but to someone that knew what to look for it was still obviously not the same.
"It feels a bit off without a scimitar." Ryouko noted, the katana bokken not having the same weight and center of gravity as her usual one.

Again he tried to ape Ryouko's stance, but this time he didn't speak.

"The basics of iaijutsu are rooted in the basics of swordplay in general. I was hoping something more familiar to you would help you find a stance that better worked with a katana but..."
He eyed the stance slowly, then pondered. "Both of you could probably use a more relaxed stance, especially as beginners. Iaijutsu itself is as much about what you don't show your opponent as what you show him. Both of your stances show me someone who is understandibly uncomfortable with what you're doing. Try this instead."
Noboru took his bokken and held it with both hands up near his face. His body was turned so that his dominant hand's side was behind him and just under where the tsuba would be if it were an actual weapon. His left foot was in front of his right and pointed toward his would-be opponent, stance upright with both legs straight. He hated it because the two hands on the blade were much like how the Kakita duel and fight but it was still one of the more commonly used methods throughout the empire.
