Ryoko watches all of this with confusion, choosing best to stay out of the conversation for now rather than give anyone on either side insult by speaking about a situation she knows nothing about.

((Etiquette/Awareness: 39.)) "Pardon, me, Otomo-samas, but even if I agree with you that it is unfortunate that school children are being targeted, I lack insufficient information to risk forcing myself into a situation that seems to be a matter of internal debate among the Scorpion. Because I have been in your shoes before, Otomo-san, where I wanted to rage against the Scorpion for something that seemed fundamentally unfair. Or are you not aware of the story of Shoshuro Sakura and her first 'death'?" Aiko replies, "As you have only said research, and not what kind. You have said your boyfriend objected, you did not say how or in what way. If the Scorpion champion feels he must be discipline, as much as I may disagree with it, it is not my place or my duty to interfere with an internal matter. And even if I felt I had to, it would be a betrayal of the memory of a very dear friend who entrusted me to find the next bearer of her daisho, if I risked the relationship that the Dragon and the Scorpion have at the moment for students who are asking me to do so for someone I do not know and in a situation that I do not have all the details." She is clearly quite irritated by all the parties involved, as right now, these are students, yes, under her care, asking her to risk a relationship that has been extremely beneficial to her clan over a disciplinary issue within the other clan. She may not agree with the fact that the Scorpion Champion is having a student executed, but she isn't a Scorpion, nor does she have the whole story. She certainly sympathizes, but she also recalls that in her own situation, where she saw her best friend, a woman she cares for deeply, led off for what she thought was the last time in High School, she did nothing, because doing so would have been to risk shaming all involved.

"We're not asking you to risk anything..."
tap-tap-tap-tap
Mochihime doesn't even look up, concentrating fully on her programming.
"We're asking to set up a phone call. And in what way do you think this is an internal matter of the Scorpion? Did you miss the part of them targeting me as well? Over something that can be cleared up by a phone call? Right! Nevermind."
This should do it. She saves her work and closes the laptop.
"Come Nii-sama! I'm sure someone in the family must have Bayushi-ue's number. Or Saito-sensei."

"And? You mentioned you were doing research, Otomo-san. And I would be doing something by arranging the phone call. The Scorpion remember these things," Aiko replies, simply, "By introducing you to her, it reflects on me. It means I felt whatever you had to say had merit."

"Never mind, sensei." Mochihiko waves his hand dismissively. "We can't have anything reflecting bad on one of the heroes of our Empire. You are right. Come on, Mochi chan. I don't mind what will reflect bad on me, I'm no hero, so I can try to save even your pathetic boyfriend's ass."

Aiko shakes her head in annoyance, sighing, "It is your choice to antagonize the Scorpion, then."
She turns to Ryoko, "So. It seems I have just you today, Asako-san."

Ryoko bows slowly to Aiko, having kept silently during the entire ordeal. She still isn't that sure what to say, but at the sensei's statement she offers, "Only when you are in the grave will you have nothing more to learn. I will endeavor to learn as much as I can from you, sensei."

"How much experience do you have in the arts of the bushi?" Aiko asks.

"Experience in the arts of the Bushi?" Ryoko offers as if mimicking the sensei's question to understand it better. There's a slight bow, the oft Togashi-like Phoenix offering, "I trained in Seido Jurojin under the Shiba, Mirumoto-sensei, though my strengths are in kyuujutsu."
An odd, but not unheard of choice for a Shiba.
"Oh, and my dance instructor, Kitsuki Hatsune-sensei, was teaching me a dance that if I can manage to get down the last step I might be able to turn into a kata..." Then sheepishly, "If I can also improve my kenjutsu."

"So, then mostly the bow, not much with the blade. No worries, Asako-san. I shall assume you know at least the very elementary elements, such as proper grip and all of that, so we can start working on other foundational elements. Go ahead and pick up a bokken and we can get started," Aiko replies, gently.
