Ryoko grabs the practice blade as instructed, the little Shiba girl looking up to Aiko-sensei with a slight smile on her face. Strangely she seems to have a tune in her head, the girl swaying to and fro to music only she hears before taking her spot next to the elder Dragon.

"Now, no disrespect to your dance instructor, but the sort of style you described is best approached by those more experienced with the blade. Now. Let me see your stance and then go through a basic series of strikes against one of the dummies over there," Aiko gestures over, "We must first walk before we run, Asako-san. But I am sure you will be able to run before too long."

Ryoko assumes her stance... only to slip just as she gets her footing in place. The little Phoenix flails a moment to get her balance but is fortunate enough to keep from falling over. She then resets her stance after trying to hide her embarassment. It's a very basic one, making it clear she's a beginner."
"I understand, sensei. It's a long term goal, anyway."

"It is good to have goals, Asako-san. Now, begin," Aiko says, calmly.

As Ryoko strikes at the dummies, it's fairly obvious any skill she has comes from her natural agility and grace and not from experience. That isn't to say she has no skill with a blade whatsoever -- she wouldn't have passed her gempukku otherwise -- but she does have some difficulty landing strikes from time to time. The ones that do land aren't fairly potent, either, between the girl's diminutive stature and her own natural lack of strength.

For now, Aiko is more concerned with making sure the Asako can hit her target properly. The actual force will come later. She coaches the young Phoenix through the proper form, being supportive and not at all trying to make this high stress, getting the feeling that Ryoko is probably going to respond better to a kindly teacher than a drill instructor.

"Sensei, you don't need to be gentle with me. Otou-san says all things in moderation, but then he also taught me a lot of other things."
A pause.
"Otou-san did study a lot of different philosophies including Fudoism, not just the Tao."

Aiko laughs softly, "Asako-san, I am being gentle because you seem like you are needing the encouragement and strong foundation more than you are needing the drill instructor. And just as there are many paths to enlightenment, there are many paths to teach a lesson."

Ryoko just nodded sharply, "Hai. Otou-san speaks of paths often. Sometimes too much for okaa-san's tastes. Things like In order to choose the correct path, you must know the pitfalls that await you."

"Your father sounds like a Togashi," Aiko says, with a faint bit of amusement.
