Now it was Seijuro's turn to experience a look of genuine shock. His golden eyes widened, grip loosening on his umbrella for a moment before he was able to catch it and keep it from hitting the pavement. He had zero reason to doubt Tsuki's sincerity in this, so he regained his composure after a few moments of silence. Seijuro knew an arranged marriage would come some day, but he did not know one had already been established so soon.
"I... I see. You or your sister?"

Just as he had offered her the courtesy to recover, she extended it in full to Seijuro. It gave her time to think on a few things, like what it would mean if he was her husband. What would it mean if Nariko became his wife? She was still uncertain of her place, but Tsuki knew it it would be hard to find it as the wife of the son of a thunder. Even then, there were more stipulations to place on things.
"That is... correct," her answer came in gentle tone.

"Well... when do we find out?" Seijuro offered in question, motioning for the two of them to begin walking again. "I don't really know much about your sister. But how do you feel about the arrangement?"
If she belt badly, then things could potentially go badly. They were friends though, which was better than marrying an enemy.

"I don't know, at least exactly, and answer to that. I admit, the idea of possibly marrying some child of the Ikoma daimyo's, who I had never met always sat poorly with me. It never felt right, for a reason I could never explain," She said, submitting to the suggestion and returning to walk at his side, "It has been a clouded burden for me but now it's clearer."
She let out a small, half hearted laugh. "I don't know what to say. Is there something to say to the man who you suddenly find out might be your husband, after thinking the son of the Lion Thunder didn't exist?" She glanced over to him, sincere in the query but didn't wait for an answer, "Still, having known you is better than not. I don't think I would mind it."
Her gaze fell back to their path. "But, whatever happens, I think ultimately falls to you."

"I didn't know Hakige-dono's son was involved as well," Seijuro replied, rubbing the back of his head. This kind of political detail was a little bit beyond him, to be honest. It's not like he had the agreement in front of him or anything. "Yeah, sorry if that was an awkward question. A marriage with a friend is far from the worst thing I can think of happening."
To be honest, he wasn't sure if he could look at Tsuki any other way than that. Or anyone really, for that matter. Romance was sort of at the back of his mind right now. "I see, I suppose you're right. Why don't you tell me more about your sister then?"

Tsuki nodded to the man and his words. It was better to just start with one piece at a time and work from there as opposed to trying to work out every little detail at once. His questioning about Nariko helped in that regard. "Nariko is a good sister. She is quiet, introverted in a word, but keeps to her work and tasks. She likes music a lot, but I think she's more into the newer electronic based sounds. Oh, she's also training with the Matsu at the moment."
She glanced over to Seijuro, wondering if that at least painted a small picture for him to start with. "What are your feelings on this?"

"She is probably a perfect fit for the Matsu then. When one speaks, it is only because what they say is worth saying - introversion has little to do with it." He looks back to Tsuki, a hint of concern in his features that spoke to his feelings on the matter.
"Has she spoke with you about her training any? Learning from the Matsu is difficult. I still carry many scars from my own training."

"She isn't that kind of quiet," Tsuki noted, seeing his own reaction to her question certainly complicated things. It didn't exactly make things all that better about the news either.
"She says little about it. The one time she finally commented on her training, she said it's okay. From what my parents have told me, her sensei's say she does well in every exercise, but she tends to just simply pull away from outside activities. She's polite, and cordial with her peers, but does her own thing. I don't know... to me it just sounds like she's drifting. Like she's uncertain." She shook her head, her siblings actions a puzzle to her.
"What was your training like? You said it's difficult, but what does that involve?"

The empathetic look in Seijuro's eyes did not disappear as he thought back to his own training with the Matsu, and how grueling and difficult it was. Part of him didn't want to tell her, but this was her sister. He could be nothing but honest.
"Extremely difficult. Extremely demanding. Constant, unrelenting drilling. When we weren't being starved and forced to fast, we were constantly fighting each other. Some days we would have to stare at a warm meal while our sensei beat us with shinai to harden our spirits. If we cried out in pain, it was another day without food and another hour of taking blows from a bamboo sword. Every day was a different weapon in hand and another passage from Leadership. Failure is dishonor. Dishonor can only be paid for with blood."

It was a relief to hear him speak for freely on it, but it also twisted her stomach into a knot. Was this really the right choice her parents had made? Would her sister come back, that quiet but understanding spirit, molded into some abrasive and brooding woman? She fell back to her memories, of when her father came back from his lessons with her father, and he told them she would be training with the Matsu. But then, it was her father. Considering how her brothers came out, it seemed on par with how he taught.
She settled herself down, and looked to Seijuro. "I am glad you told me. I prefer that honesty over anything else. It will make my letters with her a bit better, and perhaps she might just open a little more to me now that I understand. She's never been one to complain after all."
