"If she is not complaining then she is probably fitting in well enough. If she was doing badly, you'd know," Seijuro said, his voice carrying with it the respect and depth of the same training he had undergone. His hand reflexively rises to his left shoulder, a scar still there from one of the blows Tayuko had given him with a bokken - the weapon has splintered over his shoulder and and shalshed into his flesh.
"If she has survived this long she will earn her brand in time."

"Did your sensei's ever care if their students socialized well, or was it only about surviving without food and making sure not to shout in pain? Or does it just matter that they perform the tasks expected of them? What else did they care to see in their students, if anything?" Tsuki asked, perhaps a bit bluntly, though it was driven by earnest curiosity and concern for her sibling.

"I mean, they kept an eye on our mental state. They had to make sure we were fit for war - that's what the Matsu ultimately are, the bulk of the shock forces of the Lion. If we don't go into battle sound of mind then it could lead to failure. They didn't really monitor or train our social skills. Ikoma would show up every once in a while, to show us how we were expected to act in court, but nothing but the basics. That's about as far as it went though."
Seijuro let out an audible exhale. "Most of the sensei only care about our fitness to serve in the army. I know it's not comforting, but it is the truth."

Tsuki nodded, "I don't know if it matters if I find comfort or not in this, but your honesty is most welcomed. Thank you, Seijuro-san. I will just have to keep talking with her when I can, support her where possible, and let her know I care about what she does. I know my father wouldn't have sent her without a reason. He has always been that way I suppose."
At least she knew her sister was getting a good workout every day. Silver lining, she supposed. She would have to ask her father or mother the next time they traveled to the Lion lands to go with, at least before her sister returned for a while. "IF I were to visit my sister, is there anything I shouldn't do? Like gift baskets or something? I certainly don't want to make her life any harder in case there's some rule I don't know."

Seijuro gives Tsuki a small nod of acknowledgement of her thanks.
"I doubt he would have sent her if she thought she couldn't handle it. I'd like to know how she is holding up as well - do let me know when you hear from her." A pause, as he lifts his hand to his chin. "Well, the Matsu are the Matsu but they are still samurai. A gift is a gift, and I do not think you would even contemplate sending one that would give offense. A gift basket should be fine," the Lion conceded with a small smile.

Tsuki beamed at Seijuro, as if the news of being allowed to send a gift basket was the best thing she had heard this day. Technically, it was. "I am really glad to hear that. I'll start thinking of something right away to send her, hopefully she'll enjoy it. She has always been a fan of fruits. Maybe she might like that?"

Seijuro let out a small chuckle at Tsuki's sudden fit of excitement. It was good to see his friend wasn't down about it in the slightest.
"You know her better than I do Tsuki-san. I think some fruit would be nice - you said she likes music, maybe some headphones as well?"

"Oh, that's a wonderful idea, Seijuro-san!" Tsuki looked to the man with a smile, the idea clearly a good one, "She has been looking at some really nice headphones. I'll have to try and look up the brand name, but they are considered utterly wonderful in quality. At least that's what Nariko said anyway."

"Yeah, that stuff is kind of beyond me. I mean I like music and all of that, but when it comes to the latest technology I'm kind of lost," the Akodo said with a grin and a shrug, stuffing his free hand back into his pocket.
"What kind of music is she into? Does she play any instruments? I always wanted to learn but never had the time."

She smiled at Seijuro and moved to answer, when she paused a bit and looked at the man for a moment, as if she had drawn up some conclusion before answering his question. "I believe it's called Nu jazz and Techno swing, but she enjoys those. Some hip hop as well. She has taken a love to remixing music and making something new with it."
She inclined her head a bit. "As for instruments, none that I know of, but she might have picked up something while visiting your ancestors lands. She tends to work with these boards that synthesize sounds to make what she likes."
