She nods her head. "Yes the burden of being the crown prince." I suppose now is as good a time as any. "However at the same time you shall be emperor one day. A tremendous honor and as I have said before you seem to be well on your way to being an excellent emperor." She folds her hands together in her lap.

She holds up her finger. "The capabilities of an emperor are limited to those he keeps at his side." Her tone begins to shift. Her eyes narrow. "You can't possibly think to keep her at your side forever my prince. Can you?"

"I plan to make the best decision for the Future of Rokugan." So it finally came to this then.
"Is that what this is all about? Is that why you have been at odds with Hinata, Otomo-san?" the Crown Prince asked honestly, hoping for an honest answer. Yoshinobu looked into Kastumi's eyes evenly. "Your actions, for good or ill, have been hurting her."

She folds her hands in her lap. "My prince this is the duty of the Otomo family. It is our duty to protect the royal family from those who mean it harm." She looks the prince in the eyes. "You realize my Prince that if my actions are hurting her and causing her distress then I fear she is in for far worst if you take her for your bride. The Imperial courts are a dangerous place such plots as those I play against her now are all but common place." She holds up her hand. "Though she is a Samurai she is a poor Kuni. Her family can barely afford for her to even attend school. The court will chew her up and spit her out. I understand that you may... enjoy her company. I fear you may even have true strong feelings for her but I would be remiss in my duties if I did not remind you of this fact." She sighs and shakes her head. "As I said before my prince. You cannot keep her forever. A time will come when you must marry someone far closer to your station. A painful burden I understand. One I do not envy my prince. Unfortunately this is the harsh realities of this world we live in. You are a the crown prince you will be emperor one day. She will never make it to be your Empress I fear." She lowers her head. "I hope you understand..."

"I thank you for taking your duty so seriously, Otomo-san. Even so, perhaps you may think it a kindness to 'test ' Hinata in your own way. Or to show me perhaps that she could not handle a life at my side, due to the pressure or the opposition. I do sincerely believe this, however - her station or the fortunes of her family should have little to do with things. They will, to be more specific."
He pauses and takes a sip of his tea. "One's birth alone does not make one a good Emperor nor a good Empress. My father chose someone outside of the kuge. As did my Honored Grandmother, and Toturi III before them. I tell you this as an extension of a peace branch of sorts..."
"I have already begun the marriage arranging process. With her, and two others to be more specific. None are of stellar birth, mind you. So it does little to try and stop things for such a reason, Otomo-san. Let the process play out. I'm asking you to trust in my judgement, and that I will do what is best for the Empire. I'm asking you to stop hurting Hinata, please."

Tch... As though I will concede defeat. Katsumi sighs and bows her head. "If it is your wish my Prince. I am not one to deny the imperial will. I will disengage in any acts against Kuni Hinata as per your orders." She looks up at the prince. "Though I hope you are not ordering me away from continuing to carry out my families assigned duty?"

"I would never ask a vassal not to do his or her duty Otomo-san," Yoshinobu explained as best as he could.
"I just want Hinata to be able to go to school, live her life without fear. If she and I are to only have a little time left, I want it to be as happy as possible. I hope you can understand that."

... Very well a different way of playing this game. She smiles and nods her head. "If that is your wish my prince. I shall follow it to the letter. Kuni Hinata shall not be bothered by myself anymore." She bows her head. "I am and shall ever be a loyal servant of the crown my prince."
