"Thank you, Otomo-san. I am happy to hear you say that," he replies with a smile and a nod, setting his tea to the side. Yoshinobu placed his hands in his lap and looked away to the stone garden.
"I imagine you have had to make many hard decisions in your life. Were your own high school days full of happiness?"

She turns her attention towards the view of the Princes home. "My father disallowed me from attending a high school. Rather I was kept in the manor where I was taught by only the best." She sips her tea for the first time since arriving. "So I can't say for sure whether or not they were filled with happiness. I have made a lot of hard decisions in my life. I do not regret my choices however."

"So you only were able to socialize with others during the winter season?" Yoshinobu asked, clearly interested in what Katsumi had to say on the matter.

She nods her head. "Under close scrutiny from my father." She looks over to him. "As the elder child and chosen heir he had high expectations of me. If I... did not perform well he would." She looks away. "Correct me." She shrugs her shoulders. "I suppose father was strict but it was his right as my father."

"Yes, I can understand that. The Emperor and Empress have always been strict with me. Less so since my gempukku, but I was fairly sheltered before then." Yoshinobu tries to empathize, without prying to much.
"My own training - well everything up to this point I suppose - has not been without its difficulties. I still bear a few scars, both physical and emotional."

She chuckles and looks over to him. "I feel as though you and I may be quite similar. At least when it comes to our upbringing." she looks him over. "Did your parents allow you to choose areas of study?"

"Perhaps more than either of us may have realized," Yoshinobu says with a chuckle.
"Somewhat, yes, though the choice was somewhat guided. I knew if I trained with the Crane it would allow me to pursue my own artistic interests. Since my Aunt Miaka married one - and at my Father's insistence - I was to take up the path of the sword, thus I trained in the Kakita School. Kazuko-hime is the one who has it made, though. She get's to live at Kyuden Doji and study there with the courtiers."

Otomo Katsumi rolls her shoulder. "My father allowed me one choice. I choose Kyujutsu. I suppose it is for that reason that I've become quite taken with the subject. In my life it felt like the one choice I ever made."

"The way of the bow is one many courtiers take up. The concept of Air is said to favor both the use of a yumi and the courtly arts, if I am speaking correctly."

She chuckles and nods her head. "The concept of air does indeed work quite well with both the courtly arts and the Yumi." She smiles fondly at the thought. "Father was not fond of me picking up a Bushi Skill however I was quite taken with the idea of being able to defend myself. In such a way as to not ruin my outfit at any rate."
