"All logical conclusions." She nods. "This actually happened to me about 23 years ago. I ran into him first in the courtyard of the school. Then in the infirmary. And then by the pool. And then by the lake. By the time we met at the lake, we even discussed the improbability of it all. I believe he even did the calculations, as Bayushi-sensei taught statistics."
"Our best guess is that coincidences aligned so that we both had business in the same places at the same times. But then, if it happens four times in a day, does it really count as coincidence? Or is something else playing the odds?" She smiles. "Sometimes, it's these questions that we have to ask. Because statistically speaking, it shouldn't have happened."

Rodrigo shrugged. Something else playing the odds? Like fate? This all seemed a bit...odd. Who believed in fate anymore?
"If there's a possibility of it happening, it'll probably happen somewhere at some time. Doesn't have to be fate or anything, that's just how statistics work."

"Well Rodrigo. Correlation does not imply causation. Just because Sensei and the man met several times on one day does not mean there was something being it causing it all. As Sensei said it was mere chance, I would say Fate if she were now dating Bayushi-sensei or had another type of relationship with him but that doesn't seem to be the case based on her relationship with Fuyuko-sensei"

"Her mentor and uncle, actually. But the family relation came later." A pause, and then a loud snapping open of a Crane blue fan. "Well, there goes my plan to have all of you figure out how it all happened."
