She shakes the thought aside. There were still questions to be answered.

"Well I noticed that the statue.. is EXACTLY how we found it. It's as if it was 'saved' in this position and once we moved it it reloaded back into this position. Sort of like in a video game? It's a very interesting thing, it also feels like very high level trickery."

"Hmm. Let's test that theory," Hisui says, entertaining the idea. "Ichiro-san, I'll need you to bring two of the pieces to that side and I'll bring the rest to the opposite side."
"We put them down at the same time, so Horiuchi-san can take notes. Ready?"

Once in position, Hisui nods to Priya as signal to slowly lower the pieces to the ground. Hisui makes sure that they are facing differently than they were when she picked them up. She doesn't think this will do anything, but she wants to be sure. "Let's see if whatever is keeping these pieces apart is going to keep them in the same place and position as they fell," she says. "If it does, that might be relevant."

When the two bushi move the pieces around they don't end up moving on their own afterwards, but stay where they were moved. It would seem then that the enigma only occurred when it involved an "assembled" statue of Goemon.

"It's possible. But let's leave that for after Horiuchi-san has her chance to question the kami. And if we can get permission to do that from the temple back on campus." She pauses, thinking on things. Her mind goes deep into thought and analysis, trying to find a precedent or similar circumstance. Anything that might help the next set of questions. It was never confirmed or verified before before via multiple sources who dug into the matter, but there is a tale told by some monks Hisui has heard that say statues across the empire to Kojin suddenly had scorched hands. Peasants had begun spreading rumors that perhaps the fortune of the kitchen may have done something to prevent some great fire, or perhaps burned her hands while preparing the blessings of Inari for some sort of heavenly feast.
If such omens or mysteries could be interpreted literally, perhaps Goemon had been dismembered. Metaphorically, he could also be scattered, as a secondary interpretation.
