Hinata smirked as well.
"Well, I'm a shugenja. Could I bless our own marriage?" she jested back.
"But in all seriousness, I expected as such. I just thought it was worth asking."

"You very well can't oversee your own wedding! You just want the whole world, don't you?" Yoshinobu teased, elbowing Hinata playfully. Just as they came upon Sango's office.
"Well, you ready?"

Hinata took a deep breath, and nodded.
"I'm ready."

Yoshinobu nodded, and then knocked on the door. "Lady Sango? It's me, Yoshinobu," the prince said from the other side of the shoji screen.
A bright, cheery voice called from the other side. "Lord Iweko! Just a moment, my lord!" soft footsteps sounded from within the chambers, and the door slid open. A middle aged woman in a deep blue kimono stood in the pathway, her dark hair down and loose about her face. Her kuni face paint was patterned red with art that looked as if it were styled after Ivindi ink work. She looked to Yoshinobu with a smile, but then a bit of surprise at the sight of Hinata. The hour was late, and she was not exactly expecting company.
"Oh, forgive me for the unhospitable welcome my Lord," she says, bowing in apology. "Kuni Hinata-san, an honor to finally meet you. I have heard much about you."

Hinata bowed in return.
"An honor to meet you as well, Kuni Sango-sama. Yoshinobu has told me nothing but good things."
She raised back up to her full height and smiled gently.
"I like your face paint as well. That is an interesting pattern. Ivindi inspired?"
Hinata's face paint, if Sango took note of it, was a more traditional affair: just a thin red stripe beginning at her lower lip and extending down to her chin, coupled with a butterfly pattern flowering from the outer edges of her eyes and reaching up to eyebrow height around her temples.

"Yes, it is!" Sango said, excited that Hinata had recognized. "I was born and raised in the Colonies and have always had a fondness for Ivindi culture. I find it rather fascinating. Your own art is quite lovely as well!"
Sango seemed almost more like a Doji than a Kuni - small, excitable, friendly, and a bit demure. Samurai born in the homeland often said the Colonies were breeding grounds for misfits and oddballs among families. Perhaps that was why she was chosen as Nakodo in spite of being a Kuni. Yoshinobu cleared his throat and chimed in. "Lady Sango, Hinata-san was hoping she could speak with you in private. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I know the hour is late."
She smiled sweetly and warmly back at Yoshinobu and then to Hinata, shaking her head slightly. "It is no trouble at all, my Prince. Please, come inside Hinata-san." Sango turned and started walking to her desk, and Yoshinobu gave Hinata a reassuring touch to her lower back.
"Knock her dead, tiger," he whispered with a wink and a roguish smile, before heading off back to his own quarters.

Well, Hinata liked Sango already. The nakodo reminded her of Mako, in a way. The thought caused her an amused smirk as she walked into the room.
"The Colonies? I have always wanted to visit them. One of my best friends is half Ivindi, actually" Hinata said, continuing the conversation.

Sango took a seat behind her small desk, kneeling down into a seiza on a cushion. Rather than focus on the writing utensils upon it, her attention was instead on Hinata.
"I love them, Hinata-san; to me they are my home away from home as it were. Many samurai find the tropical weather there harsh, particularly those in court, but I rather enjoy the silky finery and the different types of food," the elder Kuni freely admits with a smile. "I'd imagine there are quite a ronin out there with Ivindi blood by now, and some among the less traditional clans. The Mantis once named one a samurai, after all, before their fall from grace."

"Oh, there are some great fashions coming out of the Colonies. All a bit rich for my blood, though I would love to own a sari someday. As for the food...it is a bit spicy for my tastes" Hinata admitted.
She gestured towards the chair opposite the desk.
"May I have a seat?"

"If Lord Yoshinobu chooses you to be his wife, then you will most certainly have the opportunity to do just that. Oh, yes, please, forgive my rudeness!" she says, a bit of the cheer escaping from her voice as she bows a little in apology. Once Hinata was seated, she continued.
"You are quite the lucky young woman, Hinata-san!" she says, the mirth returning instantly. "To have caught Lord Yoshinobu's eye is a miracle unto itself. He has turned down nearly one hundred offers for marriage by now, and has made my job quite difficult."
Rather than admitting as much with exasperation, Sango's tone seems rather pleased instead of disappointed.
