Aiko circles the Daidoji, tilting her head a little, "Ah. Interesting. You correct what I point out, but not what I don't. Daidoji-san, you are mindful of what others tell you but not of your own mind and habits. But then again, sometimes experience is the best teacher."
She turns her attention briefly to the Akodo, smiling softly, "I did not sugar coat my critiques of you, young Akodo. You are learning, just as he. However, a battle is more forgiving than a duel, as an Akodo or a Matsu fights with allies beside them. A duelist faces his opponent alone, and if he makes a mistake, there will be no brother or sister in arms to watch his back."
She looks between the two young men, "Grab a shinai, both of you. I am curious to see how you handle an actual bout. Are you both familiar with the rules of a formal bout?"

The Akodo looked more embarrassed as the Mirumoto talked, his quick temper had gotten to him again and he'd spoken out of place. At the very least she seemed to take it well, though he was a bit nervous as this would be his first proper duel. Ichiro walked over to his equipment and grabbed a shinai. "um I know them broadly but a quick refresher couldn't hurt" he smiled to cover up his nervousness as he settled into his stance.

Satoru listened, his actions slowing as he considered these words only to wonder what they’d apply to. That’s part of the trouble. So quick to just do as he’s told that he doesn’t truly understand why he does it. His body never gets to adapt. It is frustrating, but his mind reels with some of the instruction he has received in the past. He needs to review probably. He needs to actually hit the books on some of this rather than assuming it’s all practice.
He overhears Akodo, but he doesn’t give it much thought. Now he’s over analyzing his own technique. He’s far too focused to care, which leads to him being open for outside attacks. He attempts to correct that only to find himself lost and listening again. He altogether stops when Aiko addresses them both.
With an exhale, he processes what the sensei has said and glances to the Akodo. He almost looks...pissed?
“Yes...” he begins, slight hesitation in his tone. His previous sensei warned him about fighting at the height of emotion. He does slowly start towards a nearby rack for the proper weapon.

Aiko would notice a familiar figure walking into the dojo wearing a green gi and a single bokken in hand, his dark hair keeping one eye covered. Having changed little since the end of the last school year, Mirumoto Noboru has a frown on his features. At seeing the dojo already occupied, even if only by three people, the Dragon student pauses then turns to head off into another direction -- as far away from the group as possible.

Aiko doesn't comment on the arrival of Noboru at the moment, then smiling faintly, "Then why have you two forgotten something important?"
She gestures to the bogu, the protective garments worn during proper kendo matches. It's clear she's testing their knowledge and trying to get a gauge for how much experience the two have. And given the fact that she had stressed safety earlier, it should be no surprise she's going to be strict about the safety rules here as well. That, and it helps them get used to the proper equipment for a formal tournament.
"We'll make do with just the men for now," she says, referencing the faceguard, "As sometimes, experience is quite painful."

Ichiro couldn't believe he'd forgotten to grab the bogu, he knew it was necessary, he had done it hundred of times before. He bowed quickly to the teacher "apologies sensei must be the nerves." He went and grabbed the men and put it on before returning to the sensei.

Of course...he must have been distracted by the moment. Starting reaaally strong, he thought to himself grimly as he paused and apologized softly. All this hesitation and he's expected to fight a heated Lion. He's going to lose this one; he feels it in his gut. He's just glad only one sensei is going to see this trainwreck and not all of them.
He takes a men and set it on. He hated how little he could see with this thing on but he understood the importance of it.
Facing Ichiro, he is prepared to follow the proper ceremonies before they are expected to begin. He looks to their sensei, expecting instruction.

Noboru looks back at the others a moment before going up to one of the practice dummies. He twirls the bokken in his hand about, then just pauses as he looks at his target. He shrugs then decides to look back toward the group once more, clearly opting to procrastinate and watch with some disinterest in the sparring between the Lion and Crane.

Aiko doesn't seem in the least bit judgemental, instead crossing her arms, "We'll be doing this as an informal match. First to three points. Remember, only first third of the blade counts, remember kiai and proper form. Bow and acknowledge the opponent."
((For ease of this thread and to avoid it taking up masses of posts to skirmish, each 'point' is going to be resolved by opposed Kenjutsu/agi rolls.))

Ichiro faced and bowed to his opponent his adrenaline began coursing through his body his first spar against someone not from his local school and in front of the kendo coach no less. Ichiro focused in and let his training take hold, let his body take over, let his adrenaline increase his speed and strength. He cleared his mind of thought and let his reflexes control his fighting. (My roll results were 33 , 25, 29)
