"Isn't it said, sensei, that every experience, no matter how bad it seems, holds within it a blessing of some kind. The goal is to find it?"
Wha? Since when did Phoenix talk like a Togashi?
The little Phoenix bows slightly as she realizes she may not have fully answered the sensei's question. "Gomenasai, sensei. I didn't know this was an introductory course; I've been practicing with a yumi for a few years now and my course list was pre-assigned to me because I only just managed to get enrolled this morning."

Otomo Katsumi turns her attention to the young Asako. Ahh the last one worth interest has spoken up. "A very wise statement." Otomo Katsumi nods her head a few times before turning around and walking towards a table. "While true that this is officially known as Intro to Kyujutsu. I had prepared and expected that there may have been some with previous experience." She picks up an arrow. "I have assembled the different types of arrows." She holds up her hand and begins counting down the names. "Armor piercing, Flesh Cutter, Humming Bulb, Rope Cutter, and Willow leaf. Go ahead and choose your arrow. Each one has a target fit for it's advantage and weakness. For those of you who are new or lacking in confidence come to me and I shall tell you which arrow may best suit you. Those of you who feel confident in their skills please choose an arrow and await further instructions."

Utaku Hitomi walked over to the various arrows and studied them she picked up the rope cutter. That would probably hurt the least she sighed.

While Ryouko might not have shot a bow herself, she knew the weapons, and the arrows. She walked over the table, reaching for the more tradition arrow; the willow leaf. She figured the more balanced arrow would be the best choice for a beginner, but turned to the Otomo non the less to confirm.
"Would you agree with my assessment that the willow leaf arrow is the best one for a first-time shooter, sensei?" She asked politely, trying to hide the sleepiness in her voice. She should have drank and extra cup of coffee...

Otomo Katsumi nods her head. "Yes the willow leaf is the most basic of the arrows. It's simple and easy to use. It is most assuredly the beginner arrow. Though have no hesitation you can use it in far more unique ways. Though that demonstration will have to wait till later."

Post by Akodo Ichiro on Jan 17, 2018 10:29:47 GMT -5
Ichiro arrived at Kyujutsu class around the same time as the instructor. He was shocked to see it was the Otomo he had seen briefly at the hot springs the other night. He almost reflexively touched his black eye a small memento from that night. Ichiro stood with the other students and then the teacher asked about their experience "I have no real experience with the bow I simply thought this looked interesting and figured I'd give it a try." He said to the teacher with a small bow.

Otomo Katsumi folds her arms together as she looks at the Akodo. That boy... heheheheheh is he who I think he is. She claps her hands. "Excellent I do enjoy newbies as I told the others choose an arrow of your choice. If this is your first time I recommend the Willow leaf." She motions to the most basic arrow. She then picks up her bow and one of the Willow leaf arrows. She walks over to where she has several targets set up. "These targets are simple enough. For the time being I find repetition is good training." She walks to a spot she had set up with an X and takes aim. 24 the arrow sails and hits it's mark. "I hope most of you were paying attention to my stance and the way I fired." She steps away and motions for the others to step forward. "Feel free to take a few practice shots. Don't worry I have plenty of arrows. If you are struggling I'll come over and give you some pointers."

Ryouko's eyes followed the sensei, observing the way she stood and her movements. She moved to pick up a bow, but waited for the more experienced students to take their stance, black eyes studying them carefully. While she had seen archers fire before, it had often been from a distance. A charging horse wouldn't stay close to the archery line, after all.
Unless asked to by the teacher, Ryouko would quietly watch for some time. She took note of the way they placed the arrows -with the third feather facing outward-, of the way they held it with two fingers. How they angled their bodies, how much their legs were spread, how they raised their elbow. There wasn't even the hint of a smile on her face, as she concentrated on remembering all those small details.

Ichiro grabs one of the bows and goes to a spot marked with the x he had noticed the sensei's stance and attempted to imitate it as closely as he could. Ichiro had seen many people use the bow before and had fired a few arrows but that was many years ago during his initial training. A samurai od the Akodo must be well versed in all manner of warfare is what his father had said. Ichiro took a deep breath got the target in his sights and loosed the arrow. 23
