"But you're still living poorly, living with your Lord's shame even if you turn him in." Ryoko frowns a little, "But... is it ever that simple?"

"I can imagine there are situations where I would give my life. It is certainly what we are taught to do. But ultimately I think I would truthfully only be able to answer both of those questions in the moment." Takezou says.

“I agree with Utaku-sama’s answer about there being a higher duty to the heavens’ justice than to one’s lord,” Yoshi answers the first question, bowing to the sensei and then Ryouko. “I would also give my life without thought, if doing so meant saving another’s.” The young Dragon is rarely this resolute when he speaks, but his convictions on these matters are clear and sure, a fact which is reflected in his tone.

"Yes. It is hard to recognize the moment of death until we are face to face with it. I can tell you what i think I might do Sensei, but int the end the words would hold no meaning. Only my actions would."

Utaku Hitomi looks down nervously. "I-I would try to avoid ever being in such a situation. Never to serve a lord who could be so dishonorable." She slinks back into her chair hoping to avoid anyone's notice.

Ryouko nodded at Seijuro's words. "I agree with Akodo-san, sensei. It is easy for us to say what we think we would do, but without being trully tested..." Her voice trailed and she clenched her jaw, fingers curling into fists in front of her. "It is only when we are truly tested that we can see how poorly we hold to our values in the strength of reality."
"My answer might seem black and white, but you gave us little information on the object of this supposed crime. Perhaps if it was something relatively minor, then my honor would be in following the lord. After all, it would be my duty to follow his orders, and his soul would be the only one tarnished by his actions. Technically, honor would bid me to act against my lord, only if his action were to affect one whom is considered above my lord."

"The Scorpion are fond of a story, Utaku-samas, of a loyal samurai. Once, there was a loyal samurai who served a cruel master, dutifully and well. Another daimyo, seeing the service this man offered to a cruel lord, offered the dutiful samurai a place in his household. The loyal samurai replied 'But if I leave my lord, who would take care of him and look after him?'" Sakura replies, quietly, "The truest test of a samurai is not found in serving a good or kind lord. It is found in serving an unpleasant one."

"While cruelty is one thing and unpleasantness, Mirumoto-san, a criminal is a tiger of a different stripe altogether. It's not illegal to be a jerk."

"And if your lord betrays the empire, Mirumoto-sama?" She ask, turning her dark eyes on the dragon. There is no animosity in her feature. She seem to be simply feeding the discussion. "We need not look very far to see such an example..."

"And yet you miss what I am trying to say. Cruelty or criminality, either one makes a lord less worthy of those beneath him," Sakura replies, "Either way, we are faced with the choice of that dutiful samurai, to stay with our Lord, despite his unlawful nature, because we are bound by Duty to him, or, depending on the nature of the crime, we abandon them, because we feel bound by honor or duty to our Clan or the Empire. But until one is in that situation, it is easy to say boldly you will do one thing, only to discover when the time comes, you might do the other for reasons that became apparent at the time."
