Chiyo was exasperated. This kid was extremely persistent, but even his patience seemed to be getting taxed. She had to give him something, even if it was complete bull. The trouble was, would she throw some scraps out there or a full blown four course meal?
She closed her eyes momentarily in thought, even though a choice had already been made.
"I feel...conflicted. Worried about this year and about what is to come whether I pass or fail," her hands make a short expanding gesture. "When I look at you I see all this potential, of something just beginning to blossom. It drew my eye, making me wonder if I could just be around you then maybe we could help one another. I could provide you with whatever wisdom I've collected, and your journey could re-ignite the dying embers of whatever passion I began to lack by the turn of last year."
She rested her arms before her and leaned in, speaking a bit lower. "You seemed nothing like me in my first year, and I did everything one could do wrong. You had to be so much better than you thought you were."

"We'll help each other, Bayushi-sama," Yoshi tells her earnestly, trying to hide his worry that his own efforts wouldn't be enough. He then attempts to lighten the mood a bit by adding, "If you've already made all the mistakes one can, not only can you be perfect from now on, but you can prevent me from ever doing anything wrong too." He smiles at her too, warmly and full of the friendship that she seemed to him to still be too afraid to fully give.

"Perfection is...a bit much, but we can definitely improve." She offers him a sweet smile. It appears all is back to normal between them, if normal sufficed. Chiyo tried not to seem visibly relieved when the food was brought to the table. At around the same time a man and his daughter entered to pick up the larger order that the chef had been preparing. Chiyo appeared to be vaguely interested in them, but there was something of a sadness in her eyes.
She returned her attention to the food that had just arrived, as well as back to Yoshi. "I can't prevent you from making any mistakes," she finally amends. "But if anything, I can try to help you pull through them when you do. That is something of a luxury I was never afforded."

"I know, I was just... teasing sort of," Yoshi says with a small chuckle, as surprised as anyone that the quiet young man had some wit about him. More seriously, he adds, "We'll help each other as best we can." He tries the vegetarian pocket and smiles, nodding in approval of Chiyo's choice of venue. However, being a trained as he was, he catches Chiyo's lingering look at the departing pair.
"Do you know them?" he asks quietly, even though by the time he does, they've gone.

Teasing? That's cute. He does have ever so much to learn.
She is just about to start eating shortly after the food is set down, thanking the waitress in a rather cold display of courtesy when Yoshi asks his final question.
"Hm? Who?" She glanced behind her, the pair now gone, but realizing who Yoshi had to be referring to. "Oh...no. I thought he looked familiar." Chiyo wasn't actually sure why she stared after them. She wasn't drifting off into space, but the way the daughter followed her parent with such an endearing disposition attracted her attention.

"You... um... you could've been a bit nicer to the waitress," Yoshi whispers to Chiyo once their server has departed. He gives her a hopeful smile, wanting her to understand the spirit in which his advice was given, from a caring friend who knows that she had old habits she wanted to break and might need some help in doing so.

The waitress? She’s an airhead. The chef knows it, I know it. She blinked at the recommendation.
“I wasn’t? Oh...I...didn’t intend to come off so poorly.” Chiyo rose a hand to her face in shame. “I will apologize to her when she returns.” There. All fixed. It wasn’t her fault the girl took like five minutes to take their orders, and yeah, she was pretty annoyed at the speed of service. Every minute was another minute she was left answering for herself to a kid she’s been artfully emotionally dodging all evening. And poorly too. She missed when she used to just shake people off her back, but she had to remind herself that she was even more miserable then than she was now.
She tries the crab pocket, which is delicious as expected. Now that she’s having something to eat she’s actually beginning to feel much better.

"So... are you making any more new friends, besides just me and... you-know-who?" Yoshi asks, deciding it was safer in general to not talk too openly about the Imperial heir. He frowns as he takes another bite of his own meal, hoping his question hadn't come off as jealous. He'd admitted to having that feeling already and, in his mind, had also moved on from it along with the conversation. Now, he was purely interested in Chiyo's progress toward being kinder and more open in her Fourth year at RHS.

"I'm not sure," she pauses to think, honestly puzzled as to the state of her various friendships if she could call them such. "I do speak to Tarik-san often, and Mochihime-san and I are less...hostile to one another than we used to be. Her brother--" she cut there, and the sharp look of distaste that crossed her features faded away half as quickly as it showed. "Is unpleasant, but for some reason he and I seem to be fated to meet on a constant basis. Perhaps the fortunes are trying to tell us something and we are both refusing to listen."
She taps the table thoughtfully as she tries to recall anyone else. "I only just met Iweko-san...and Yoruga-san and I..." She let out a small chuckle. "I'm mostly mending bridges. I tried to be friendly towards some first years, but they seem to find me intimidating."

"Oh, Tarik-san!" Yoshi recalls with a start. "I have his notes from Law Class earlier today. Otomo Katsumi-sensei pulled him out for... something... and he never did return." He listens to the rest, feeling a tiny pang similar to jealousy again as she mentions the Fortunes in relation to Mochihiko, though it's gone quickly as she continues.
"I can see why you might intimidate some... especially people like me," he says, gazing for a moment with humble appreciation at her beauty to push his point home. Not wanting to just stare at her, though, he goes on, "But I've made friends just today with some of my fellow First Years. I can definitely tell them about all the good experiences I've had with you and how willing you are to help." He finishes with a smile.
