She sighs, and then takes a moment --- and some lamb --- to recompose herself.
"I imagine the engagement can't be called off, then? As for how to handle it...I suppose his best choice, if he's open to it, is to do what my husband did. Befriend her, with no expectations of anything other than fulfilling duties. Let both of them find their comforts where they can. The way it's been done for centuries."
"But I was older when that happened to me. She's young, and from what I've seen, a little shy. She might not be ready for it."

Fuyuko ahs softly. "I see, is it simply pleasant like you brushing my face or...pleasant to do by daylight. And this is well, if she needs anything, she can always look to us for examples. Kami help her." she offers with a dark chuckle.
As the conversation goes back to Tarik she shakes her head. "He also is in love with another.. its complicated but that is what I advised him. It's what I wish my husband had done to me. Almost nobody finds love in an arranged marriage."

"And no, love is rare in such a marriage. But they can try to find friendship, can't they? It's what Michiba did with me. I could never love him, but I considered him a friend."

Fuyu wrinkles her nose. "Well good that it didn't go on too far. But hopefully she will. And she can learn through us how to have a satisfying life. I am Sure Tarik would not object to her keeping a lover on the side."

"And I would like to help her, if you're right about her...inclinations. Going into our situation blind is an exercise in self-loathing."

Fuyu blushes. "I ...see. Perhaps later after the date then." she says softly before she nods. "Or danger of other sorts. Even if things are better then they were when I was young. When i was young I thought it was a curse from the spirits."

"A curse? That's an extreme way of looking at it," Hisui says, having never thought of it herself. "Mostly I was just confused and maybe a little frustrated at being surrounded by what felt like every pretty girl in the Empire and having no idea what to do about how I couldn't stop looking at them."

Fuyu gives an embarrassed look. "I didn't know better. I thought it was wicked, like some external wickedness. But now it's not a curse just...a different way to be."

Fuyu blushes and looks down. "I got into it some time ago, they have good romances. And well she knew alot of good romances. It's what tipped me off. She was very familiar with good girl love stories."
