In most circumstances, one would not mistake Utaku Hisui as someone who read poetry. It had always eluded her, that quality that made reading a poem beautiful. Yet, on this fine morning, sitting on a bench in the courtyard, she kept herself occupied. A book of poetry written by her Crane paramour was in one hand, while the other was occupied by the riceball she intended to make her breakfast.
She decided that if she was going to continue to let emotion become inspiration, she would learn poetry. Or, at least, the kind of poetry that Fuyuko wrote. It was only proper, she thought. It could become their shared passion and song lyrics often felt like a form of poetry.
Of course, it's not like she'd be against having some company.

Hinata had decided to take a walk in the courtyard before class and take in the morning air. After staying up late last night, she needed the refreshment to get herself ready for classes. At this time of day there were not many people present either, so the little moment of solitude provided a sense of zen. Hinata closed her eyes and took in a deep breath of the cool, humid morning air, relishing the feeling of it filling her lungs. When she breathed out, it was a contented sigh.
When she opened her eyes, she noticed the woman sitting at a bench all alone. The woman looked a bit lonely as she read her book, and Hinata wondered if she should go over and introduce herself. After wrestling with the decision a bit, she decided she might like some company, even if the solitude was nice too.
She walked over to the woman, and when she got closer she recognized the Unicorn teacher she had met at the temple two days ago. Hinata bowed deeply to her.
"Good morning, Utaku-sensei. Would you like some company?"
She looked at the rice ball in Hisui's hand and smirked playfully.
"I would ask if you have had rice today, but I see you are already in the process of doing so."

Hisui found herself just finishing what felt like the seventeenth poem in the book about an aesthetically-pleasing spray of blood after a blade to the throat when Hinata called out. She marks the spot and closes it, making the appropriate bows and gestures once she does.
"Good morning, Kuni-san," she greets. "I would love some company."
She smiles on the matter of rice. She reveals she has two more. "You're welcome to take one, if you like."

Hinata held up a hand in refusal and took a seat. She knew the Unicorn usually did not care for the game of refusals, but unlike with a Crab you could not just assume such a thing.
"Oh, no, it is quite alright. I would not want to take your food from you."

The smile never wavers. She never liked the game much and was thankful in situations that let her ignore it outright. Still, if the Kuni wished to play, she would put in some effort.
"Are you sure? I wouldn't mind sharing. Food is best with good company."

Very well, it seemed the woman did want to play. Hinata would oblige her.
"It is fine, really. I can just get food from the cafeteria."

"Then let me spare you the trouble," she says, a little more insistent.

"Oh very well, they look delicious anyway."
Hinata smiled softly and took one of the rice balls.
"So, with that out of the way, may I ask what you were reading?"
She took a bite of the rice ball.

She hands one over. "I never expected a Crab to make me play that game," she comments idly.
"And this is poetry. I'm not particularly good at reading or judging it, but someone who means much to me likes writing it. I thought I'd read through it, see what she sees."
"What brings you out here today, Kuni-san?"

Hinata let out an amused 'hm'
"Oh, I dislike the game of gifts, but...one can never be too careful with strangers in a place such as this."
She leaned back, crossing her legs.
"As for why I am out here, I just wanted to savor the morning air. A bit cool, a bit humid...perfect, I would say."
She looked at Hisui, then the book.
"Poetry you said, though? Perhaps I could help you interpret it, I have something of a hand for it myself."
