"Well, a miai is a good start. And Benten has been known to listen to petitions. My situation is living proof of that." She tries to offer a comforting smile. Not much else, though. The courtyard was a little too open for that sort of thing. "Disapproving officials, I imagine?"

"Yes, precisely. Just one, though."
Hinata sneered.
"Some woman named Otomo Katsumi. She has been after me ever since Yoshinobu even said hello to me."

Hisui let out a sound. It is a combination of frustration, confusion, annoyance, and no small amount of primal, guttural dislike. They've met, clearly.
"If it's any consolation, you're not the only one she's got her eye on."

Hinata made an amused noise.
"So you know her, then. Want to vent about her while nobody is listening?"

"As much as I might feel pity because her family's entire purpose is to play a losing game, I find it hard to empathize with anyone who responds to learning I'm attached is to flirt harder," she says, taking up Hinata's offer with only a token of hesitation. "And then outright tell you her purpose is to keep the Clans fighting each other. How in the name of the Kami am I supposed to interpret that other than an intent to ruin my life?"

"Yes, she does that, shrieking little harpy that she is. I think she gets some sort of satisfaction out of it. She manipulated two of my friends into fighting each-other, then hired another to spy on me. Yet whenever I see her in person, she insists she has done nothing and tries to make me look like the crazy one."
Hinata waved a hand.
"At least she seems to be incompetent. You would think an Otomo with her experience would have little trouble with me."

"She seems to believe, whole-heartedly, that is her job. To keep the Clans at each other's throats. Which they're prone to doing on their own anyway. Yet here we are, living proof that their meddling can't account for everything, and it feels like it gnaws at her on some level. Like she has to drag us down with her as she loses."
She rolls her eyes and makes that frustrated noise.
"I imagine she's distracted because she's pulled in at least three different directions, as far as I know. You. Me. And whatever her interest is in a Badger student that has Mirumoto Aiko-sensei alarmed."

"Badger student?"
Hinata blinked, then cursed under her breath.
"That's why Priya-chan was so quick to defend her yesterday..."

"Ichiro Priya-san, yes. I see you've met."
She pauses, thinking for a moment.
"Would you mind if I asked how they interacted? How it appeared?" she asks. "I've been meaning to speak to Ichiro-san on the matter, but certain circumstances have made that difficult to arrange. But I am...concerned about the nature of their interactions."

"I...could not detect that they were anything beyond friends."
Hinata shook her head.
"I have no reason to believe there is anything untoward about their relationship, other than Katsumi being the kind of person she is."
Hinata paused, furrowing her brow as a realization hit her.
"...oddly enough it seemed like Priya-chan was in charge of her. She did not talk much during the conversation, but a few of the times she did it almost sounded like she was ordering Katsumi around."
Hinata looked at Hisui, puzzled.
"What could that mean?"
