Hinata should have foreseen such an outburst, but Yoshinobu had said it would be fine, and foolishly she had believed him. She leaned forward and put her face in her hands to hide her shame and surprise.
"...do not apologize, it is not your fault. It is not anyone's fault but the sick freak in my head. As I said...if we cannot get him out, I will drop out of the running and kill myself, that is the only way to be sure he will never bother us again."

Sango wanted to reach out and pat the girl's head for a moment, but kept herself from doing so. The paint on Sango's face could not hide her own shame either, and she did not retreat behind her hands as Hinata did.
"Honor demands I must offer mine to Yoshinobu-sama as well, if I cannto help you to put an end to this." She paused. "I will do my best to help you as well, Hinata-san, so that our Lord Yoshinobu does not have to watch as two of his faithful Kuni die."
"Have you spoken with the Toritaka yet?"

"No, my parents are in the process of doing so."
She shook her head.
"Instead I have been looking for other solutions, doing research. One of my friends, Horiuchi Nadeshiko-san, has a family heirloom that would allow her to ask Otaku Kamoko herself for a favor; we both think ridding the Empire of Yori would be a valid use, if an exorcism fails. Beyond that...her and I both think we know why he was drawn to me. It turns out I have many similarities to his daughter, Kuni Fujiko."

"Kuni Yori is already dead, Hinata-san. I may be wrong, but I do not believe someone besting him in combat from the other realms will sever his tie to you. It is a spiritual connection that keeps him tied to you, not a physical one, right?"
Fujiko. Now there was a name she had not heard in a long while, nit since her initial training. Sango remembered reading about the woman in a history book. "Fujiko-shiryo... I see, that does make sense. I hope you do not share in her ultimate fate."
Even if the woman's death had been a good one. Still, if Yori was haunting her because Hinata reminded him of her daughter? That was a boon that could be exploited.

"Well...that is the catch. Kuni Yori is undead, but Nadeshiko-san and I spent most of the day in the library yesterday researching. We found nothing mentioning if he died again. Granted, he spent almost a millenium in lands we do not keep any record of, so I would chalk his status up as unknown either way. In addition to that, two days ago he did something to block out my sense of hearing. I do not know much about ancestor spirits, but I do not think that is something they can normally do, is it?"

"Hmm, it does sound odd. If asking a Kitsu wasn't such a bad idea I'd advise you to do so. If anyone would know it would be them."
Sango frowns. "I am sure there various nemuranai that would aid in any ritual as well, but if there are I am not for certain what they are or where they would be."

Hinata breathed a sigh, puffing her cheeks out.
"I suppose it is just down to what the Toritaka can do, then. I am sure they would know of any nemuranai. It is also something I could research."

"Their daimyo married a former Scorpion - so be wary who you reveal this information to. Find one you trust with your life, because that is what is on the line Hinata-san. And not just that, but Lord Yoshinobu's honor as well. If this gets out you will both be destroyed, politically and otherwise."

"My parents are the ones looking into that. I am sure they will be able to find someone they can trust; as far as I know, there are no Toritaka at the school."
She took a deep breath.
"...I had been hoping that if it did not work, Yoshinobu would be unaffected. I did not even think of how it could come back on to him..."
She closed her eyes and rubbed her temples.
"...right, one more reason this needs to be solved quickly. He threw himself on the firing line for me, I am not going to let him ruin himself."

"No one will follow an Emperor who consorts with the Shadowlands. No true samurai of Rokugan. That may not really be the case, but that is how others will perceive it."
