"You could also just make this easy and answer my question," Genji offers with a polite smile before starting in on his lunch. He could tell the Scorpion was irritated (gee, ya think?), but for now his own curiosity was getting the better of him. "Well, now I first have to thank you for confirming the correctness of my feeling," he says, smiling with sweet sarcasm. It disappears quickly and the Scorpion sighs before continuing, "If I must satiate your curiosity, it's a history of the Periodic Table of Elements... you know, the one with more than four... as told by stories involving the discoverers of the elements and what befell them, for good or ill." He can't help but emphasize his last two words in a vaguely threatening manner, though it doesn't sound to Genji like it's directed at him more than it is just reflexive.

"Yeah, that sounds a little dry. Not something I'd read for leisure like Shinjo's Guide to the Celestial Heavens or a biography on Kaimetsu-Uo, but then I'm sure some of the books I read to keep up on the latest methods of teaching a service hound or even a warcat would probably be pretty boring to you, too."
At that Genji nods in thanks as if to say 'that wasn't so hard, was it.'

"Quite the contrary," Saito replies, though he's giving Genji about as much visual attention as he is the water he hasn't even sipped yet. "I might find something in those to apply to my own profession, even if the objects of the methods are a different level of housebroken."

Kangei smiles a bit more broad at her acceptance. "Sounds perfect!" He gives Umeko a a long look and adds "you know as wonderful as your teas are the most precious flower doesn't live in your greenhouse." He pauses after that and takes a long drink of tea as he thought. Perhaps that was a bit too much but who knows at least she already agreed to a meeting. It took her a few seconds to get the meaning of his words, and she smiled warmly at him, a pink tinge to her cheeks. "You are too kind, Asahina-sama. I hardly believe I can be compared to a flower..." She chuckled, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "Well, perhaps a thorny bush or a thistle." Umeko took a sip of her tea, amusement obvious in her smile. "You, on the other hand, would make a stunning plumeria" ((OOC: Plumerias also represent beauty, charm and grace in the language of flowers))

"I might find something in those to apply to my own profession, even if the objects of the methods are a different level of housebroken." Genji would laugh a little at himself with Saito's answer. "Then clearly I need to broaden my horizons a little more, Scorpion-san." With that the Utaku took a swig of water, swallowed it slowly, then looked over toward Umeko and Kangei while asking, "If it's not prying too much, how long have you been teaching?"

Kangei looked slightly amused at Umeko's comparison but was mildly distracted by her slight blushing, the color in her cheeks highlighting her subtle beauty. "Your words do me a great kindness Umeko-san. I have been compared to a flower in the past but it was usually not meant in such a sweet way." Kangei considers her self-assessment and counters "While you do me too much credit you short yourself unnecessarily though you are correct in that you clearly have a rough side but I'd equate you more to a Quince than to a common thorny shrub beautiful to look at but one must be careful when handling." Kangei leans toward Umeko and produces a fan with which he covers the lower half of both their faces he places his face close to hers and speaks in a soft whisper "Umeko-san is there a relationship I need to be aware of between you and the Utaku-san? He has paid a great deal of attention to you since he has arrived."

Umeko froze at the sudden proximity, clearly unsure how to react. Her initial reflex had been to jump back, but she forced herself to suppress it, instead staying perfectly still. Her eyes did flicker toward the Scorpion, a flash of annoyance crossing over her features, before she turned her eyes back toward the Crane as he whispered quietly to her. Confusion replaced annoyance quickly, and her eyes darted toward the Utaku this time.
"Genji-san?" It was obvious the poor girl was probably a bit thick, as it was clear she hadn't notice the Unicorn's attentions, if there were any. "I, no, erm... I mean, we are friends, of course but nothing like that, no."

Genji pauses to look over at Umeko again as Saito points out the flirting she and Kangei are doing. He starts to respond, then stops to think before smiling softly. "Well, it's about time someone noticed Umeko-san. Ronin-born or not, she'd make someone an excellent partner in life."
With that the Unicorn turns back to his meal, chewing slowly but going silent after that, perhaps much to Saito's relief.

Kangei pauses a moment, not long maybe a a second or two, but significant before he is fan folds and is gone again in one quick movement so quick in fact had one not been paying intense attention to the crane they may have trouble seeing where he stored it. "Good" Kangei says with a smile as he sits back. "Id hate to step on anyone's toes on my first day here. Though I wouldn't blame the man if he were interested, you're a rare woman Umeko. It's difficult to describe, there is just something about you." His voice is soft with this, Umeko can understand them but just barely. This is intentional Kangei has learned that often the softer he speaks the better people listen plus it has the added benefit of making it difficult to eavesdrop on him.
