So lost in thoughts in her room from her earlier meeting with the Otomo student, that Umeko almost forgot she had arranged a meeting for lunch. She swore, jumping up and quickly changing into something more appropriate though still simple. A long sleeved shirt and a nice pair of pants. She switched her gardening gloves for some felt dark green ones, before rushing out toward the greenhouses. She barged back into her office, grabbing a few bags of teas, before almost running to the cafeteria. 2 minutes before lunch-time! She took a few seconds to catch her breath (which honestly wasn't that spent), before walking into the teacher's lounge, glancing around. Tag: Asahina Kangei

UmekoKangei looked at his phone looking for all the world an anachronism in his formal traditional crane robes holding his smart phone. Kangei noticed the time and figured it to be best to head to the teacher's lounge for his lunch engagement, he brought with him food and his tea set. Upon entering the room kangei found an empty table and set up his tea set everything perfectly in its place. he was about 15 minutes early so as to avoid being late. He saw the ronin woman enter the room and he politely stood and bowed to the woman as he motioned to the table "Afternoon Umeko-san, please join me." He noticed the bages of tea with her "perfect you brought quite a variety it seems." He favored the woman with a wry almost smile the worner of his lips turning up slightly.

A tall Scorpion in a tailored suit stalks into the Lounge amidst Umeko and Kangeki's lunching.
"Oh," he notes their presence with disappointment. "I had banked upon the rest of you giving this place a sensibly wide berth until absolutely necessary." He gives each a respectable but curt bow.
"I'm Shosuro Saito, the new Chemistry and Cooking teacher," he tells them both before making his way to the refrigerator. As he rummages around in it, he adds, "I'm sure I won't disturb you further... and vice versa." The last three words are under his breath but still quite audible.

She floundered slightly at the sight of him. Of course he would already be there. The gardener quickly offered a polite bow, before moving over with a warm, unashamed smile. She place the teas on the table, the labels facing him so he could see them. "I thought I could bring you a few of the teas we grow, so you might sample them. I am rather fond of the Sakura white tea myself." She noted, pointing at one of the bags.
Along with that one, she also had a nice selection of green teas, some more whites and two that seemed to be more spiced, gaijin inspired teas. "I have begun experimenting with more exotic mix last year, but they might not interest you as much." Umeko added, shrugging slightly and moving to take a seat at the table.
She paused and turned as the door opened, looking up at the new arrival. Quickly, she offered once more bow. "An honor, Shosuro-san." She said, cocking her head in interest. "This one is Umeko-san, head gardener, botany and medicine teacher. I provide most of the fruits and vegetables used for the cafeteria and cooking classes, and so I am sure we will see each other more in the near future." She smiled at the Scorpion, unfettered by his sour expression.

Post by Utaku Genji on Jan 9, 2018 16:18:22 GMT -5
Utaku Genji walks in, freshly showered and in a nicer set of clothing than what Umeko and Kangei would have seen him in earlier in the morning. He notices the familiar faces out of the corner of his eye and smiles politely, nodding to both while catching sight of the new teacher who was clearly Scorpion based on the mask alone. Thankfully he hadn't come in until after Saito had spoken and so simply walked over to the fridge to pull out his meal for the day. "Umeko-san, Doji-san, Scorpion-sama. I hope Hotei has blessed your day so far."

Kangei regarded Umeko warmly as she described the teas his eyes spending as much time on her as on the teas, nothing untoward to be sure his eyes held a respectful curiosity for the woman her hand has a tale to tell.
"Hm I think I'll begin with your recommended brew, a nice white sounds very fitting."
Kangei took the bag and began his process with tea set acquiring boiling water and moving through the motions with such precision and formality one might have thought they were preparing for an official tea ceremony. Every movement was sure and exactly as he meant it to be.
He was just finishing as the scorpion entered. Kangei rose and offered the man a polite bow. "Afternoon, you may call me Asahina Kangei. I am the new etiquette and courtier studies teacher." Asahina gave the scorpion a perfectly calm and pleasant smile "I assure you we will be of no bother to you."
Kangei turns to the other instructor entering the room. "Thank you for your kindness may blessings rain in you as well." He says with a bow as he returns his attention to his companion.

Umeko finally sat down, after a quick nod to Genji. She watched the younger sensei prepare the tea, absently scratching at one of the many scars that were visible on her, despite the long sleeves and pants. She smiled, nodding to herself. "Tea tastes even better when handled with such care and capability." She noted to Kangei, resting her arms on the table as she waited patiently for him to be done, never pressing him.
"I admit that while I am quite versed in tending to them as they grow, my talent as a brewer is acceptable at best." She noted with a hint of longing as she watched his precises movements.

Kangei nodded to Umeko "You honor me Umeko-san" his faint smile grew a bit as he spoke "I could say the same about my skill in growing and caring for the leaves." He picks a bit of the mix up and feels it "I can tell by the texture and smell of the tea as it brews that you have grown an excellent product. It would seem you are well suited for your position." As the tea finishes he rises and serves it to Umeko bowing after he pours. "I hope my brewing has done your leaves justice." His voice a soft breeze on a spring day. After serving Umeko her tea he returned to his side and poured his own and then waited politely for Umeko to take the first sip showing her deference.

The botanist smiled warmly as she accepted the tea, sighing contently. "Wonderful." She said as she took a sip. "It seems we complement each other rather well." Umeko noted, sitting back and enjoying her perfect tea. It amazed her how differently it tasted then when she made it herself. "You will need to teach me the proper way to brew tea, I fear I might have doing it wrong my whole life, now!"

Kangei takes a sip of his own tea sighing contentedly as the warmth filled his throat and spread to his body. "I might have to agree with you, this tastes excellent compared to the mixtures i buy from the store." He takes another sip of tea enjoying how the flavors played a slight embarrassment tints his cheeks at the compliment "You do me too much credit Umeko-san, the make of the leaves has much more impact." His composure quickly bounds back "I would love to tutor you in the art of brewing however if that is what you wish, of course I would be delighted for your insight into how to grow ones own leaves in return." a pause but a calculated one rather than an awkward one "not that your company wouldn't be compensation in and of itself." he punctuated his sentence wish a sip of his tea.
