Looks like they'd be playing one last set. Ryuha notes the restoration of focus, and if she wanted to win the finale she'd have to be as equally prepared. That's what she thinks, anyways, after parrying his first blow but taking the second. (27 - orokos.com/roll/589981)

Ryuha could only offer such a worthy opponent nothing but her best. If she was to win, she'd need to call upon the teachings of her sensei. She closes her eyes, almost as if engaged in an iai duel, waiting for the perfect moment. Clack, clack, clack, clack. Both students launch into series of attacks, parrying, dodging, a flurry of movement. Just as Ichiro's bokken is about to connect with Ryuha's shoulder, her's finds its way flat across his stomach. An instant's hesitation would have led to her loss. (51 with two void from the Shiba Bushi tech - orokos.com/roll/589988)

Ichiros heart sank as he felt the bokken touch his stomach. For a moment his fire swelled, his first chance to impress a sensei gone in an instant. His grip tightened on his bokken before he let out a deep sigh and a smile quirks on the edges of his lips. He pulls back and gives his opponent a deep bow. "You have given me something to strive for, thank you."

Ryuha gives an equally low bow. She could measure the strength and precision of her opponent through the force of his swings. On the battlefield, and not in a controlled setting?
"If that was an actual fight you would have cut me in two, Akodo-san. I have something I need to strive for as well. Thank you for the lesson."

Ichiro grinned "perhaps you are right, let us hope we never find out." As they vacate the sparring area Ichiro looks at Rhuya "You are extremely skilled, I'd be interested in training with you further. I feel like I could learn a lot from you."

Izumi had watched the other matches with interest, her earlier confidence waning slightly at the skill of the other fighters. Whilst she hated the disrespect and anger around her, Izumi tried to focus on the fights and what she could learn from them. She knew she wasn't the most tactful of people so decided to keep out the verbal sparring and stick to the physical sparring. She was watching the fighting so intently she almost missed it when her name was called. She felt the standard mixture of adrenaline and nerves as she went to collect her weapon and ready herself with a last second mental pep talk. She wanted to impress but fighting a Kakita would not be easy. She stepped forward with a determined expression bowing respectfully to her opponent. Izumi knew her defensive skills were not great so it was likely she could only win this spar from the front foot. She watched her opponent's technique and stance waiting for an opportunity for her to strike. (sorry for the delay didn't see the tags etc) ( sparring: 8d10o10k3 22)

Isao offered Akodo Izumi a warm smile when he approached her for their quick spar. "I look forward to sparring with you," the Crane chirped. "I'm Kakita Isao, a First Year."He offered her a bow and when she was ready, he adopted his stance and prepared to engage her. The Crane darted forward with a kiah shout at the start of the match, throwing up a quick offense was maintaining a fluid defense. The young Crane was fast and certainly skilled. Izumi returned the warm smile "Akodo Izumi, also a first year" she replied "I hope we both can learn from each other" as she adopted her stance. Even the briefest of study told her she was fighting a skilled opponent, she would expect nothing less from the Kakita. She was a bit taken back by her opponent's shout and fast offense, the same tactic she had planned. As such her blade was slightly out of place allowing the skilled swordsman an opening and the first point. She was disappointed but tried to focus waiting for her opening and a chance to try and impress. Whilst she would try as hard as she could she really wanted ateast one point to keep her pride intact. Winning was ideal but not embarrassing herself was also important. (one point grrr. sparring: 7d10o10k3 35)

Isao's initiative was strong and he traded blows with her easily, but as they sparred she took control of the fight with a clear demonstration of fine swordsmanship. Certainly impressed, Isao smiled broadly as they fought. It wasn't arrogance for doing well at first, like she may have believed, for he grinned even as she was beating him back, battered his defense and landing sound blows. The clack of their training weapons were heard throughout but it was clear the fight shifted in her favor. OOC: Agility/Kenjutsu 21
