"I hope you enjoy the food here as much," Yoshi says, happy to hear her describe having a pleasant experience more than he was nervous that this one wouldn't measure up. "I'm sorry if I might have upset Isao-san. He was very nice to talk to you for me, and he offered and insisted even though he and I barely know each other. I just didn't want him doing anything... covert... on my behalf." He shrugs, wondering if he had made a bigger deal out of it than was neccessary.
"Like I said before too," he goes on, "Isao-san also has some... differing views to mine... on relationships. He told me that 'love is love and marriage is marriage' and they needn't be mutually exclusive, by which... I'm pretty sure he meant a person should be free to find the former... outside the bonds of the latter. May I ask... did you agree to this date... because you feel similarly?" He's too polite, and respects Tsuki too much, to even share the third leg of Isao's philosophy, about sex being able to be sought independently from either of the other two.

"Isao-san isn't wrong in believing such a thing," Tsuki noted, "We both know Rokugan is full of of tales of love and marriage often being separated for whatever reason. Most of them tend to be tragic when it comes to love, but it does help separate them I suppose. The play 'Upon the Shoreline' is very much about such a thing. A married man finding love in his passing relationship with a geisha, their bonds growing so strong that when suddenly she is to move away, he does all he can to keep her. Of course, he shirks his duty and eventually it catches up, disgracing him and keeping him from stopping his true love from parting."
She smiled, clearly enjoying the movie but likely disheartened by the ending. "Plus, the history of the empire certainly helps. But, to answer your question, Yoshi-san, I agreed because you asked."

He smiles in thanks at her answer, though his expression becomes more pensive after a while.
"I know all the old stories and how the world usually works," he says, nodding at her previous statements. "Isn't it our duty though, as a new generation, to change the world for the better if we can? I understand Isao-san's not wrong, but if I could, I would set a better example. I... would like to find myself a marriage where love can grow... even if it's not there at the start... but... of course, it would be even better if it was already." He looks across the table at Tsuki, with eyes both hopeful and haunted.
"I know what a marriage without love is like... and I would spare my future family that," he finishes quietly.

"I think every generation believes that," The words floated out, past a small smile that for a brief moment, looked empty.
"The heart can't always be the decider of such things either, and love can be dangerous in the face of duty. But I like to think the same as you. I would prefer the man I marry to be one who would love me so greatly that I know I could trust him, and in turn, he could trust me. Not because it's needed to keep up a good face, but because they simply can." She offered Yoshi a smile, warm and welcoming.
"And you'll be a better man, husband, and father, for it," she add on softly.

Yoshi listens to Tsuki intently, from her intial sentiment about generations past, through her words about marriage, and finally to her gentle praise of his future prospects. He nods along with all her points until finally, he looks down, humbled but still smiling.
"I've felt for a while now that... our hearts were somehow aligned," he tells her. "It's always a joy... when I find our minds are as well. Thank you, Tsuki-san." He sighs in a bit of relief, also using it to buy himself some time to consier where to take the conversation from here.
"Have you... ever dated anyone before?" he asks, deciding to perhaps locate some differences between them after covering similarities. Thinking too late that it might be too personal a question, he adds to try softening it, "Did you... stop because they talked too much about marriage and dating?" There's an ulterior motive behind the self-depricating humor too, as he definitely also wants to provide her with a polite and playful way to suggest he shift the topic further away from relationships.

She smiled warmly at Yoshi, his words of hearts aligned and mirrored personal thoughts brought out an visible joy. His thanks was the cherry on top, her gaze broken as she glances away as if to embarrassed to fully receive such a compliment, but her attentions to him return. His questions needed answering, and his own self deprecating humor bought another smile from the woman. Both for its humor and the time it bought for her.
"No, and by default, no," finally came her reply, "I wasn't joking when I spoke about others perceptions of me change when they know who I am. It doesn't help that many think me to be... I suppose old school doesn't really fill the kimono, so to speak. Perhaps traditional?" Her tone conveyed the question rhetorical and aimed directly at herself, but remained lighthearted all the same.
"It doesn't help that I do tend to play to those perceptions however," Tsuki admitted freely.

"You can just be yourself around me," Yoshi reassures her, even if it perhaps went without saying at this point. As he spoke, the waitress brought out their food, steaming hot pockets on plates and the drinks too, all balanced on a tray. He thanks her as everything is set down, cutting into his to let it cool a bit first.
"Dating itself is practically traditional these days, though, isn't it?" Yoshi continues. "With a lot of people our age just... um.. getting together, casually... dating is almost like a modern miai; two people go on a date, they decide to go on more dates, they decide to date only each other... and so on... until... hopefully arranging marriage." He blushes a little at the more intimate implications of "getting together" and "and so on", but he continues to soldier forward.
"I... really want to do this right... dating... courting," he tells her. "That's... part of why I decided not to wait any longer, before taking the first step. I also thought... you were probably already way ahead of me... being Second Year." He smiles in apology for assuming she had greater social experience, although in his defense, she did already have a marriage nearly arranged and a potential husband met.

It was a sweet line to speak, and certainly the go to default one, but being oneself around others was not so simple. Still, it earned him a smile as she plucked up the utensils in hand and followed Yoshi's actions. Steam rose from the pocket of food as her cut finally let it escapes from its meaty prison.
"I'll take it as a compliment. It's sort of nice to think I look like I might have some experience, sort of like I'm an actor in a way," She beamed at him.
"You are right though. A lot has changed, but I think we might take too much credit on that. I think it's more our parents don't have to marry their children off to solidify marriages for political reasons. Which gives us more time to find others, test those waters, and then eventually settle down for the one we like most," she spoke almost plainly about the subject. After all, she was technically separated from the possibility.

"I'll take it as a compliment. It's sort of nice to think I look like I might have some experience, sort of like I'm an actor in a way," She beamed at him. "You struck me as... worldly and mature, I guess... even before I knew your Year," he tells her. "More than that, though... I just couldn't imagine that no one ever had ever asked you out before." He also can't imagine, if anyone had done so, that his would have been the first invitation she'd actually accepted. He gazes at her as he tells her this, perhaps a bit longingly, before catching himself and looking down at his food. "You are right though. A lot has changed, but I think we might take too much credit on that. I think it's more our parents don't have to marry their children off to solidify marriages for political reasons. After all, she was technically separated from the possibility. "It's... nice to have something to thank mine for," Yoshi says, absently picking at the vegetables nestled within his fried pocket. "I wish yours would allow you the same."

She smiled at his words, finally sampling the food while he spoke. She hummed softly at her first bite, the flavor clearly sitting well with the young lady. It also helped that taking her time with her sampling also gave a moment to wonder if she gave everyone the impression Yoshi had of her. Probably not, but it was also nice to hear that she could under the right circumstances.
"And why do you wish that, Yoshi-san? Is it for my benefit or for yours if I could?" She said in curious tone.
