"Me too," Yoshi agrees. "I couldn't have wished for a better first date, Tsuki-san." He bows to her in thanks, both trying to be a gentleman as they stand in full view of the dorms as well as being leery of getting closer and either taking her hands or giving a hug, due to not wanting to surprise her again after the kiss upon her hand.
"I'm also going to ask you to go out again," he says with a smile. "However... before you give me your answer... there are some things I need to tell you." His smile falters a little, and he paues to take a deep breath and let it out before continuing.
"I believe communication, honesty, and trust are the most important things in a relationship," he tells her, "so I need you to know that... there's another person for whom I'm having... similar strong feelings; not the same, but... similar, more than friendship. It's been... very confusing. During the brief time I misunderstood you to be completely spoken for, I had asked her out, but she told emphatically me that she wasn't ready for dating. However, just last night, after I'd already asked you on this date, she suddenly completely changed her mind and said she very much wanted to date me." His cheeks color a bit to be admitting what he considers very intimate personal details, however this was part of being completely open, which he truly felt was the right thing to do.
"So," he begins his conclusion, "my thought in light of this was that the best course of action, for you and me, is to continue to date non-exclusively until we figure out all our feelings, where we're headed, and if we want to take the next step, to commit to dating just each other."

Tsuki was quiet as he spoke but he could see the elated smile of hers begin to fall away. It was still the smile he had known to come, the warm and ever gentle look Tsuki had given him the first time they might. There was a difference though and his ability to perceive it would not be lost. If not for his own training then for the time and days he had spent getting to know her. The stance she took was subtle and light but there was a change. When he concluded she looked away from him, her own words and feelings not fully settled just yet. Still, a samurai must be prepared for anything. Even this.
"I see. I... am glad that you were so honest about this with me. I know some would opt to simply play the field and hope that one of the ladies they are with ends up being the one that ends up committing. It's a bit deceitful in my eyes." She paused and shook her head.
"Apologies, I seem to have gone off track, I just... wasn't expecting this I suppose. I appreciate what you are offering though and I can tell it's been thought out. But, I don't want you to divide your attention or your feelings between another woman and myself. It's not fair to you or to her. It could end up splitting commitments and priorities, and... I don't want to be the reason for that. I enjoy your company Yoshi-san, I earnestly do, but I think that this should be our only date."
Her eyes wandered. "For you and me both, I think."

"Oh... I...," he says, trailing off with his mouth half open and a pained look in his eyes. This hadn't been what he'd expected either, especially not after the rest of the afternoon had gone so well. He'd been honest, and she'd appreciated that, but he didn't immediately understand how had things taken such a turn after that point. He doesn't realize it yet, but it was simply going to take time to process all of her words. And that would have to come later, because the only ones he can hear right now are those echoing repeatedly in his head, that their first date should also be their last.
After a long silence, he collects himself and, standing before her in the fading light of afternoon, he gives an actual reply.
"Ok...," he lies, because he still very much wasn't. However, it was just a small one that he felt had been earned with the honesty he'd already paid and the heartbreak he was currently enduring, and he was telling it more to ease any of her potential hurt than his own.

Tsuki's smile thinned a bit. That last line was probably the one that had hurt the most. She can understand his disappointment or even his possible frustration and surprise but the 'it's ok'? That was the part that stung the most but she could understand why he did it, or at least imagine the possible reasons anyway. Still, the justification for it didn't make the words any less sharp or reduce the blow from them. She would make due and simply aim to keep that part alive that mattered. Their own relationship.
"I won't keep you. I can understand if you would prefer to head back to your dorm," She offered, giving him the opportunity to disengage from this. There was little that could be likely said to him at this point that didn't feel like an apology or a repeat of her thankful words before.

"You... could keep me...," he offers quietly. That was the thing about Yoshi and lying; he hated it, he never did it, and therefore he wasn't really any good at it. The "ok" had been more one of stunned resignation than ambivalent reassurance to begin with, and all that crumbled under the opportunity to implicitly say what he really meant, the truth of his feelings written all over his face.

Tsuki seemed to ease at his words but she didn't move from her spot. It felt akin to limbo in a sense. No direction to go and just waiting to see how much time would need to pass before finally a decision was made. Reading the room, as it were, and seeing Yoshi's expression fail to match his words in some ways left her uncertain on the approach even if she knew the outcome she desired.
"I... Don't really know what to say," She finally admitted.

"Me... me either," Yoshi replies. All of his meager social arsenal had been spent, from honesty about the situation to logic over how he felt was the best way to deal with it. Though he was still tyring to wrap his head around all her words, he'd registered enough by now to know that she'd answered back with both honesty and logic in kind, and he could see no way around that.
"I... I respect your decision...," he tries finally, falling back on stating a fact, because he knew he couldn't handle his emotions right now. As he feels his eyes start to sting with wetness, he adds, "You're... you're right, though; I should probably go." He turns to go, but finds he can't actually walk away yet. He couldn't just leave without expressing... something.
"Even if there's no chance of doing this again, I'm still very happy that we did, at least once," he says, managing to keep his voice from breaking, or from pausing, before getting it all out. That's all he has left before the tears start though, so he does manage to begin walking away now, rather than turning back and letting her see them.

She didn't stop him. He was saying things from the stance of someone who was hurt, his own mind taking a meaning from her own words that might make it easier for him to cope, or at least as far as she could gather. Either way she didn't wish to extend a bitter note any longer than it had to be, but she wasn't going to let what they had die either. Though the relationship would never progress to something deeper, she didn't want to lose what she had gained. Not without a fight.
"I am too," She called out back to him, "And I don't want it to ruin our friendship. I hope to see you at the temples again, Yoshi-san. I earnestly do."

All he can do is pause, turn his head slightly over one shoulder while still keeping his tear-streaked face mostly hidden, and give a ragged nod. After that, he continues at his previous pace to depart the...
