Grappler. Change tactics.
Kobushi shifts position, lowers his center of gravity. Sacrifices some striking power in exchange for potential explosive impact. A half-breath later, he pounces into a very direct shoulder tackle he hopes to segue into a mount position.
The idea that position could be misinterpreted never crossed his mind.
It's a high-risk move. The Miya could use it against him any number of ways, but he wanted to see if she would. And what she'd do. Either way, he'd smile.

Like an athlete would ever misinterpret any position. Certainly not this athlete!
Asurito tries to lower herself, as well, but it is an unwise reaction given how much stronger Kobushi is. Soon she feels that she cannot hold much longer under the pressure and it is true. It doesn't take long for the Imperial to fall on her knees first and find herself laying on her belly within the next second. Still she doesn't give up. She can't reverse the situation with raw force. That's certain.

From this position, Kobushi knows he has options. He has the Miya grounded, and he could bludgeon her into submission if he wants. However, that felt like the wrong tactic. Also, it might take too long.
The Herald had a number of defensive options. Bridging could dismount him. In fact, he suspected the Herald could do that with little trouble. She could hug his torso, cutting off some attacks and leaving him open to some of hers. He had technique, but he couldn't be sure he was good enough that the gap was insurmountable.
He tries to pin her arm and get a joint lock, but his movements are awkward. Like he's not used to attacking from his position. Asurito has a huge opening. And more than enough time to exploit it.

The Miya avoids the lock at the last moment and she manages to find enough space to actually reverse and find herself on top of Kobushi. Choke or lock now? She struggles with both the decision and her opponent. In the end she uses her upper body to keep the Daidoji down and moves her legs to the front in order to secure a choke. Not the best option, but surprise might even the time she lost in thinking

That made no sense.
And that, Kobushi reasoned, was why it worked. The Miya was on top of him now. He was being choked. He was never good once take off his feet, but he's not about to give up just yet.
He makes one great effort to lift the Miya up before slamming her to the ground. For a moment, he looks like he actually can manage such a move. But his strength gives out before he can complete his attempt. Exhausted and not too proud to admit defeat, he taps to signal surrender before he passes out.

Asurito releases him and rolls next to him in the tatami man before standing up and offering a hand to help him rise to his feet. "You are very good at this, Daidoji san!" She comments. "If not for my silly tricks and quite some luck, I would be pinned down quite some time ago." She smiles a broad smile. "Of course, your compassionate efforts not to hurt me didn't work in your favor."

He lifts up a finger, as a signal to wait so he can catch his breath.
"Actually, I was making it up as I went along," he answers. "It's been a little too long since I had to go to ground and couldn't find anything to grab."
"But I had fun. I'd be up for another round if you're interested."

"Sure! More of a boxer?" She asks and assumes her stance.

He gets on his feet, checks to make sure he didn't get injured earlier.
"Pretty much."
This time, he takes the initiative. He makes a quick jab, going for a shoulder. Test her defenses first. See how much faster she is compared to him and plan accordingly.

Asurito isn't exactly prepared for such a swift attack. Her mind is already travelling to boxing. She should definitely try that, as well. The Daidoji easily gets her on the exact spot he wished for.
